With Real 85W Charger - Voltages:
PPBUS_G3H = 8.4V
PP5V_S5 = 5V
PP3V3_S5 = 3V3V
PP3V42 = 3V42
PM_SLP_S4_L = 0

What tells the PCH to send out PM_SLP_S4_L please?
Anything obvious I should check too?

Get green light on MagSafe?
Switch to amber when battery connected?
Post SMC_ADAPTER_EN, PM_BATLOW_L, S5_PWRGD, PM_RSMRST_L,
Also check PCH's RTC signals...

Hold up. Just plugged battery and charger and after maybe 5 minutes it powers. It does this even on a fully powered battery. With MagSafe and battery it will power after being plugged for 5 minutes. This is an Apple charger 85Watt.
Power button is non responsive, will check if it pulls low.

Just ran wire from KB connector to ONOFF_L and it's now powering.

It must power up without battery.

I just got this one from Amazon on Sat..... I'll have to order another as I sold my chargers with machines. You think it could be a fake?

The machine STAYS powered with just charger if I connect batt, power on and remove batt, but will not actually power on from cold with just charger. Any idea?

Yes you probably got a fake Chinese garbage charger. Go in About this Mac and see in the power section the wattage of the connected charger.

Who knows, I need to buy more chargers anyway.

Yep, PPBUS = 8.4V

With the machine complete it powers, charges and runs perfectly fine.

Yes please.

Charger is bullshit, got Apple Logo, IDs as 85W Apple but will not power all boards with just charger... Only some.
