  • [SOLVED]820-00165 - SMC_ONOFF goes low when SMC_LID activated.

Originally had liquid damage ages ago, and was repaired.

When I close the lid it boots up, but no backlight until you reboot it. So it's like it knows the lid is closed, but SMC_LID is shorting SMC_ONOFF_L causing it to turn on.

Only way around this is to disconnect battery and boot by connecting a magsafe.

I can't perform an SMC_RESET from the keyboard either.

Very confused on this one, any suggestions?

The usual, bad Inboard/cable or bad trackpad/cable. Trackpad/cable most likely in this case.

Nothing is plugged in, the board is on the desk.

      All jacks look clean.

I noticed the board was maybe greasy, so ultrasonic cleaned it.

        Good news, Bad news.
SMC_ONOFF_L doesn't go low with SMC_LID any more, but it won't turn on either And from time to time the charger will swap from orange to green (no battery connected).

        Will check power rails now.

IO board or flat cable, also check connectors on LB side and IO side...

Pulled the TP cable out and it had corrosion all over the TP side.
Your intuition is uncanny at times.

MLB & IO Board connectors look good. Used known good IO boards and cables.

The symptoms have changed I need to work out what it is doing and re-diagnose. It seems something is intermittent.

The board is missing PP5v_S5 and PP5V_S4RS3.

I have used multiple known good IO boards and flex cables. Could there be a short pulling it down? Nothing is getting warm.

This board has been a royal PITA.

Why even measure anything else if there is no 5V_S5??
I suspect crap under SMC, what is PPBUS voltage? G2_EN even coming on?

Because it used to have 5v_S5, this only happened after the ultrasonic clean.

                  PPBus = 8.17
                  No G2_EN.

Ultrasonic the board for 20minutes then in the oven for an hour.
Book, we got green/orange light and fan spin. Even boots to a flashing folder.

KB/TP issues though, but I knew that from the corrosion.
Caps lock key is always on but no response otherwise.

Can someone confirm the cable number to use for the TP to MLB?

Swapped trackpad and cable and it's operational again.

                      Please mark solved.
