820-00164 water damage

board was slightly water damaged around smc area. the computer will only initially turn on with magsafe connected only. you can unplug the magsafe and computer will stay on after the inital boot.

The computer will randomly shut off as well. smc replacement?

i check traces and resistors. all seems to be okay.

Possibly crap under SMC.
Reflow it with quality flux; better to reball it.

Apart of traces, check correct value for the surrounding resistors.

Does it charge the battery?

Exactly what 2informaticos said flux and heat under SMC. After you do that, does it recognize a battery in the OS? Voltage on PPBUS after doing that?
