  • [SOLVED]820-2879 strange power on

    Hi.

    Got this board yesterday.
When I press powerbutton the fan spins for 5 sec then it dies.
For some strange reason I decided to keep holding down the powerbutton longer and after 10 sec I heard noice from the dvd drive and after that a normal DONG.
It booted normal and everything seems to work.

I have tried another keyboard with same results.

    What is causing this problem?

    Check sense resistors to ISL6259

What is PPBUS voltage? Does it charge?

        Comment

        • #5
          PPBUS_G3H is 12.63v
          PP3V42_G3H is 3.42v
          PP3V3_S5 is 3.3v

they are all stable and doesn't change.
          Battery is charging.

          Board Looks nice

Try and run ASD to check for errors

              Ok

Current (IPOR) --Battery-BMON Eng (test 1) - Sensor Reads Within Operating Range
              - Check to ensure that sensor reads within operating range.
ERROR - Sensor is reading above the high limit.
              - TEST FAILED -

Check sense resistors and traces again, this is a current sense issue in R7050/51/52 circuit. Corroded trace or resistor, measure resistance between pins 17 and 18.

                  yes
R7050 looks a bit strange. the solder is dark grey

no contact from R7051 to R7050

replaced R7050 and ran a jumper from R7051 and now the error error in ASD is gone and everything seems to work.

                      Thanks alot for your help

                        New problem.
Everything worked perfect except the dvd-drive. turned it off and mounted another drive. now it wont start.

PPBUS_G3H is dropping from 12.6 to about 3.3 v and then back to 12.6.
                        no PP3V3_S5
                        Bad ISL6259?

Does it work from a charged battery? Probably more corrosion on sense circuits.

PPBUS_G3H is stable with battery but it still won't turn on
