I'd like to have something to test laptop displays and perhaps cables as well for determining which I have to order, if either, in case of a no display job.

These look to be the most generic version of each type of board, but there's also listings for more specific versions such as this.

Are these more adapted to the specific display than what cable is included? Is there a different firmware as well? Does anyone else use these for testing? Is it practical? I'd basically like to be able to just make one order relating to a display repair when I don't have the parts, and not end up with either an unnecessary cable or LCD.
