Diagnosing SSD issues

I have an old mac air board for an A1369. Fully functional

I swapped out the SSD to do some data recovery on an equivalent drive and when that was complete, swapped the old drive back in. Dead. Obviously worked on anti-static basis and drive was not dropped or anything.

is there any decent way to diagnose a bust SSD? schematics/board views for them etc?

the logic board for the A1369 still works and the recovered SSD still works too.

FYI, done the SMC and pRAM reset.

Check if it is recognized in Disk Utility. Could be that the drive has APFS, so if the board has not had the EFI update it will not boot from it. Hardware should still be visible in Disk Utility though.
