So as a total beginner to using a hot air rework station to do micro soldering and the such, I am running into issues with what do do my work on. I have a simple Ikea table, composite wood covered with plastic vinyl. I do not want to work right on this surface because it may melt wile I am soldering. I had a piece of silicon that I used on my hot plate that I was soldering on and it seemed to be working for fine tot protect the foam workmat I had underneath but when I when to use my Hakko FR-810B for the first time both the silicon and he foam mat underneath it melted and bubbled because of the heat.

Questions:
What do you all work on?
What do you use under the board you are working on?
Are there any good clamps or board holders out there that you all use to do your work?
Am I using to much heat with my rework station?

My fiance who is a jeweler says I need a peace of fire proof board to do my work on, and I am inclined to agree.
Any advice, or thoughts are welcome.
