I charged the battery with this board, verified that its working (bat gave ~7V first, ~12 after charging a while). Going to let it charge a little longer, but right now there is no fan spin when trying to power it up with the battery in (tried with magsafe in and out). Not very hopeful.
Can I...
No pulse on 5V_S3 when pushing power or shorting pads (checked with scope)
Rail check:
I wasn't sure what to check and what not, so I went for all the main ones I could find on the overview in the schematic.
PPBUS_G3H
no short
8,42V
PP3V42_G3H
no short
3,4V...
3v3_s5 is at 3.3V
PP1V2R1V05_S5 is at 1.1V
C7771 replaced, no change. (I checked the cap with my ESR meter, its 362uF and 0.0ESR, so was almost certainly fine to start with).
smiba - Its actually 8.41 according to my multimeter, which isn't all that accurate, though it performs amazingly well for the pos it is.
dukefawks I'm using a real charger. Don't own a fake. I tried both shorting the pads at R5015 (without keyboard cable inserted) and using the power button...
Charger light green, but switches off after a while. Power rails stay as below whether light is off or on.
No fans
PPBUS_G3H = 8.4V
PP3V42_G3H_REG = 3.4V
P5V_S3_REG = 0V, no short to ground
P5VS3_EN & PM_SLP_S4_L = 0V, no short to ground
PP1V05_S5_MCP = 1.1V
MCP does not heat up.
Anything...
I wonder if a lower temp alloy would make this job easier. I used to have some chip-quick alloy back when I had no hot air station and it did its job for SMD's, but cleaning a throughhole of the stuff completely might be tough to do.
Is there a way to check whether the battery is indeed the cause of this without hooking it up? Maybe by attaching it to my lab supply and measuring data lines?
Wondering if this is as great as it looks (a lil books filled with 0201 SMD resistors). Anyone have one, or is there something better (other than make your own)? I'd have to order a bunch of these books for the different wattages/sizes, and a couple for caps as well.
SMBUS_SMC_5_G3_SDA is 3 Ohms to ground, problem was in U7100, which was fine before I hooked that battery up.
I've replaced U7100 again, which fixed the short. Both pin 5 and 6 of the battery connector are ~80k now, same as the donor boards I have.
However, PPBUS_G3H remains at 8.2V. Could...
I've replaced R7150, R7151 and R7152. Resistance on pin 17/18 is now 3.1 Ohm.
I've replaced Q7180 again, as I wasn't sure of my earlier replacement there. After that, I got 8.6V on PPBUS_G3H.
I replaced the slew of components I took out of the battery circuit, the LVDS connector, C8317, F7700...
What FETS would be at risk if powering on without U7100? Q7130? If so, can you explain why? I assumed that with the gate signal from U7100 missing, nothing bad could happen.
U7100 Pin 2 = 16.1 V
resistance between 17/18 = infinite
27/28 = 20Ohm
R7151 is ~4 Ohm
R7152 is 0.L
R7150 has a large...
Update: found shorted caps in the PPDC_G3H_INRUSH circuit (C7130, C7131, C7135 and C7136). Not sure if all shorted, but replaced. Short to ground on this rail is now gone,but voltage on this rail and on PPBUS_G3H is only 1V.
edit: Replaced Q7130 just to be sure, but no change.
Water damage.
I first got 0.48 volt on PPDCIN_G3H.
I've replaced (from donor board):
Q7010
U7090
Q7180
replacing the first two wasn't necessary, but after replacing Q7180, PPDCIN_G3H is 18V.
CHGR_AGATE is 0V with U7100 present. I lifted U7100, CHGR_AGATE went to ~16V.
After placing a (new)...
I have a Rigol DS1072CA myself, and I have had moments where it was useful. Best example off the top of my head: A 3.3v volt rail which looked like 3.3 on a multimeter, but was a garbled mess on the scope due to an issue in the voltage regulator. This led me to look for problems in that rail...
I finally got my Crest CT500, filled it up with the same solution I had in the Emag cleaner and put in the same board I had in the Emag. Results not too impressive, see image. This is some stubborn corrosion. The Crest heats up a lot faster, though I still got me an immersion heater for it which...
I have a PUHUI T8280. You can get it for less than €100 on ebay/alibaba. It heats up fine, but securing PCB's onto it requires some creativity as those rails don't get fastened properly on their own.
Didn't get my phone boards, so I ended up doing a few tests using frames with tin foil between them, as I hear that's a way to at least find out how well the cleaner is doing its job in a hopefully somewhat repeatable manner. The cleaner is supposed to mess the tin foil up and punch holes...
