820-3536 came back from the dead but no Backlight (although PPVOUT_S0_LCDBKLT = 52V?)

Hi guys, this one came with with liquid damage with lots of corrosion near the SMC but rest of the board seemed unaffected. After UC I found a couple of broken lines and jumped them. The system now gives green light, chimes, can see boot options with USB drive (the owner did not provide the...

820-3437 LD, after UC and jumpers OK(?) but no green light

sorry you are right at the fuse I measured the expected voltage, at D7701 where I checked for continuity for the FB there is no output. also the SMC_LID is HIGH. the CPU although it gets 1V does not warm up.. it does but only a little...

820-3437 LD, after UC and jumpers OK(?) but no green light

ok I just had the guy bring me the LCD, there is also no backlight - are these related? or should I also find a new flat cable (tried DC board and magsafe is sound, original 85W) BKL_EN, EDP_BKLT_EN, BKLT_PLT_RST_L are missing. There is 8.5V output at the backlight fuse which means its not...

820-3437 LD, after UC and jumpers OK(?) but no green light

Hi guys, This one came in from another service shop dead. They already UCed with generic chinese bath. I did once more with Crest to clear their flux (which was all over the place) and also ensure a better bath and after that I jumped a corroded line and a missing resistor BOTH next to the...

[SOLVED]820-2850 weird charging problem - Shorts DC_IN when batt is connected.

yes and I think that is the reason I oversaw the PPBUS_G3H value - my brain played a dirty game on me. Everything is great so far. thank you again buddy.

[SOLVED]820-2850 weird charging problem - Shorts DC_IN when batt is connected.

thats what happens when you miss the basics.. thank you dude. problem solved. note that I missed two things. one the ppbus_g3h correct value and also the short at Q7030 which I measured. need a holiday.

[SOLVED]820-2850 weird charging problem - Shorts DC_IN when batt is connected.

of course you are right PPBUS_G3H is ridiculous at 16.6V!.. Q7030 seems shorted between 1-5. will replace that and report.

[SOLVED]820-2850 weird charging problem - Shorts DC_IN when batt is connected.

PPDCIN at F6905 is 16.8V, then PPBUS_G3H is 16.4-16.6V at F7040. What do you mean?

[SOLVED]820-2850 weird charging problem - Shorts DC_IN when batt is connected.

with magsafe only: 16.4 to 16.5V with battery only: 11.9 to 12.0V measured at F7040

[SOLVED]820-2850 weird charging problem - Shorts DC_IN when batt is connected.

Hi guys, This one works normally without the battery and also works normally when the battery is connected. BUT when the battery is connected and you plugin the magsafe the green light trembles and switches off. You must remove the magsafe from the AC outlet to start it again because it has...

    Macbook 15 2011 with 0005

it does happen every time but it does not affect the operation of the GPU, as long as the new chip is attached properly. The bar is slightly diagonal and comprised of many colored lines. Ignore it and tell your customer to ignore it, too. It also happens after a reball in my experience.

Yep see quite regularly. Its not affecting the GPU operation.

    820-2915-A missing LCD_PWR_EN - external monitor OK

again you are speculating or projecting - X-rays can only tell for sure. Also what is different in CPU/NB/SB production when it comes to attaching the DIE to the SUBSTRATE that they are not similarly susceptible to failing as their GPU "cousins"? Maybe you are right about customers not bothering...

    820-2915-A missing LCD_PWR_EN - external monitor OK

that's not statistically (at least) true - we know reflows last a couple of months (sometimes less sometimes more but you can't tell) and reballing jobs - we usually forget about them. As I said during the 1 year warranty we offer, IF the GPU fails again then we replace the chip with only the...

    820-2915-A missing LCD_PWR_EN - external monitor OK

if done properly it will last - not all chips have issues with the micro-balls between die and substrate. Most machines I have in the field are with more than two years of proper operation since the reball - our policy is one year warranty. With some others I just replace the BGA, Now we can...

    820-2915-A missing LCD_PWR_EN - external monitor OK

OK you were right about the original EFI file - I put it back and I am back to square 1. I have now to see why this machine slows down after a while. During the other attempts so far this customer gets a GPU reball in the package which he was gonna need anyway sooner or later. Still cant...

    820-2915-A missing LCD_PWR_EN - external monitor OK

I did with clear me but didnt work. should I try the original dump (unedited with clear me)? or should I get a dump from the guys here that we know it works for 820-2915-A with hi-res LCD?
