tried the original bios again and it seems to load slow. It does it eventually but it takes a while so might still be some issue there.
If you can change the serial in the clean bios that would be fantastic.
Thanks again
Apologies for the confusion, turns out my 65W magsafe was failing. Sadly I only realised that after reballing SMC. Got a new one and the laptop powers fine on it without battery
Luckily, I also found R2042 had a hole in it and was reading 500k, replaced it with 0ohm from donor. I think this was...
ok so I flashed the clean bios again via programmer
Tried to boot High Sierra from USB drive, with no battery connected.
Tried with original 85W magsafe 2 lead on my PSU, loading bar gets to 60-70% and the screen goes black and I hear the "dong" startup sound, then the os starts loading again...
so, adding to the weirdness:
I've experimented a bit more and it seems I can reliably boot OSX on the macbook if an external display is attached via HDMI or DP, even if still using the retina as main display
Once fully booted into the OS I can disconnect the extra screen and the laptop will...
the bios I tried is the clean ME bios you posted in another forum https://boards.rossmanngroup.com/for...f-at-40-econds I don't have Medusa yet.
tried pram reset with no luck, it does the reset but freezes the same
If I try to reinstall MacOS Catalina it goes through most of the process but...
820-4924 with unknown history
Some general nastiness, signs of liquid around the LCD connector but overall nothing terrible
Powers on fine but when booting macOS will freeze with the loading bar around 75%. Sometimes (rarely) it will boot fully in which case it seems to work fine.
Have tried...
The second one came in very dirty, after ultrasonic it would get fan spin, vcore, but no picture, no usb activity, no brain.
Both the bioses worked perfectly. Thank you very much as always
yes, sorry, I don't have a medusa yet. No wonder there's no serial, I opened the bios dump in hex and there's no FSYS region.
I had a go at editing a clean me 3437 file using instructions from the forum, and I got the serial to show right and the usual things like webcam work fine, but still if...
so...
Overall the board seems to boot into the os fine and mostly works, but for some reason it tells me no serial number is available, which stops me from running the built-in diagnostics.
Should I dump the bios or is the problem somewhere else?
weirdly the board has now decided to work with the magsafe, even though it wasn't working last night after changing Q7180.
I'm going to put it back in the laptop and run a few tests.
Any idea what the problem might've been?
haha, sorry about that, I should've checked the diode. It measures 0.78v one way and OL the other on diode mode
R7012 is 67.6k
R7180/81 is 100k and 62.1k respectively
R7185/86 is 0.468M and 0.333M respectively.
They all seem to be the right value according to the schematic
Thank you for taking...
Have checked my dc board, flex and charger, same combo gets green light on a different 3437 board.
D7012 looks good on visual inspection.
Have tried replacing Q7180 but get the same behaviour. I think you're onto something regarding the leakage, because the official charger is protecting itself...
Hi everyone.
Somewhat stumped on an a1466 with the 820-3437 board.
Laptop came in with some general signs of liquid damage, I reflowed some of the worse looking areas with flux to clean them, then ran board through the ultrasonic.
Now the laptop powers on fine with my power supply, but on...
Hi, thank you very much for the suggestion. Funny, I actually sent them an email earlier asking for a quote. They seem to be the only UK distributor I could find for crest but they didn't have any prices on the website. How much did you pay for yours?
Alright, good to know.
I always hear Louis talk about how great his ultrasonic is but haven't seen him use the medusa or other bios programmers I guess.
It's a bit of a relief tbh because it's pretty expensive to try and get a P500 ultrasonic here in the UK, much more expensive than the medusa...
I got the file now that you approved permissions, not sure why gdrive decided to be weird
BIOS chip is back on the board and booting. Cleared internet diagnostics and shows serial number same as on the casing.
Currently installing OS, but it's all looking great.
So would best practice always be...
Thank you so much.
I requested access to the file.
I tried my hand at copying the FSYS block from my original bios to the donor file but I'd rather just use your file since I'm having to solder the bios chip for every flash.
Out of curiosity, do you usually fix these manually or just use the...
Thanks a lot for all your help. I have uploaded the original bios and a dump from the donor chip which makes the machine boot:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1R_KOfR_cYmQ2YlMHRj-beIGq8Bi4aXcz
I'm trying to learn how to do it myself from the forum here but might take a while.
Sorry, didn't mean to be a pls bro.
Found a few files but had no luck(got fan spin but no brain). Then I tried a new bios chip from a donor board without reflashing and I got boot.
So I guess the original bios chip was bad (even though it would read/write/verify in the programmer)
Should I...
