Hi, I have an A1465 in at the moment. There is not the usual 820-* board designator but there is a designator of NYKS94V-0 NM19182T 08B
Is this a known board variant and if so is there an equivalent board designator for schematic purposes?
thanks
Justin
Going back to your comment about it being an unlikely culprit; these are the symptoms:
1. no all_sys_pwr gd.
2. dummy all_sys_pwrgd and the board spins up.
3. voltages on all the input pins to the chip are pulled down from where they should be. Remove the chip and all the voltages are correct...
I got one of the above through recently and opened it today. Supposedly dead, but once I disconnected the battery and swabbed away some of the worst of the gunk it span up ok.
the board was disgusting. Green goo, hair and (probably) rice grains all over the place. no specific area worse...
I've just had one of the above in. bits of stray metal wire all over the motherboard (abortive hookup wires?) and many of the probe points are bright blue; some are purplish. It looks like a huge current has passed through the board.
no orange light, no green light no PPBUS.
U7100 gets...
all_sys is made from Q7950 which takes input from:
1. PP3v3_S0_MON via a resistor divider. I get 3.3v coming in but the resistor divider is a different ratio to what's in the schematic. I get 0.77v at the divider and 0.7v at the pin. From the schematic I should be getting more than 1.05v at...
in fact I'm going to hunt on the ppvcore instead.
no high on the en line to U7400. putting 5v in to that got fan spin.
so no all_sys_pwrgood.
the slight flummox now is that per my schematic I am missing both R7962 and … U7960 (ISL). pads are present for both; and the resistor ladder for...
current status is that I have my PP1v05_S0 rail back now.
I'm getting 1.5v on PP1v5_S0 but only 1.35v on PP1V5_S3. which is confusing.
and still low voltage on ppvttddr_S3, zip on PP0v75_SO_DDRVTT
and nothing on PPVCORE_S0_CPU/AXG
I guess the next thing to investigate is the 150mv drop on...
Thanks. I found a dead cap. Removed it and the mosfet chip and now have another rail back and the cap is behaving itself with normal increasing resistance when measured.
But still no fan spin or vcore. Time for sleep and I will investigate more tomorrow .
The chime was there after I...
thanks. I think that a resistance across a cap in that area that low seems wrong though. Are you saying that you get similar readings on a known good board?
this one has stopped chiming. corrosion in the intervening period perhaps. Or a shorted cap (which is my bet).
the 1v8 issue was measurement error. It is present (1.78 - 1.80) in all the right places.
I had some spare time so probed some of the main caps around the coils. C1768, c1680, c1683 and c1682 (PPVCore caps) all have very low resistance (4-15Ohms). I'll have to chase this through.
nope. nothing on PPVCORE.
14.4v on PPDCIN_G3H.
the other rails are mostly there but:
I'm not getting 1.8v at all the points that it should be present. for example - there is nothing at R2719 but u2700 is fully provided.
PP1V5_S3: 1.35v
PP1V5_S3RS0; 1.35v (but PP1V5_S0: 1.5v)...
yes U1800 gets hot without fan spin.
the fan 'jolts'. rocks on its spindle.
there is voltage on the fan pins though. is this a case of a broken fan ?!!
replaced the lcd connector and plugged the fan etc back in. Spun up the first time then stopped and now will no longer spin.
U1900 still getting very hot to touch. not something I'd like to keep my finger on (and hotter than comparable machines).
Gut feel is that there is still a short...
I don't have a spare clock chip but I'm not sure that the rtc is not ok . Pin 8 on u1950 is pp3v42 which is stable. I will check the spi bus but again - this feels like a different kind of issue on the S5 5v regulator circuit. Like a diode failing as a cap discharges perhaps.
