820-00165 (not reading BIOS) Deep Tracks, Forgotten boards from the past!

Deep Tracks for LB repair. I am digging into the forgotten boards from the past that I could not figure out and seeing if I can fix any of them. This one helped me learn how the BIOS and PCH works. What I do know. The PCH is getting a good clock signal The PCH is not stuck in a RESET_L...

820-00165 (S0 state Brain Dead) Flawless physical condition. NOT WATER!

RESET_L is at a happy 3V3. I put the board in the rework machine pile. This is not a CPU short. I totally agree it's a faulty data line. It's like to does not properly load the bios. It does not even try to access RAM. Unfortunately most of the lines I need to test are pads under the CPU...

820-00165 (S0 state Brain Dead) Flawless physical condition. NOT WATER!

This is the second time I have seen this. Normal boot up behavior is 350mA for a sec then jumping to 550mA and bouncing around as the CPU is working. In thermal when the 550mA happens you can see the memory come to life. In this board as in the last one I encountered it starts in at 350mA then...

    820-00239-09 (failed touch ID)

I am almost 100% sure I have troubleshot this down to a LED flash driver IC but was wondering if anyone else has seen this? Is this going to be a signature failure?

820-00928 ( Bad Touch ID button ) will apple help?

I wanted to post a update on this repair. I decided to soak the touch ID button in a Zinc Choride solution for about 10 minutes the power wash it out with a water pick. That did the trick. I was able to save the Touch ID button and the machine works. I posted multiple videos on this as I was...

820-00165-A Powers Up, No Chime no Display

Sounds like it is brain dead. Lots of things can cause this. 2informatics is right about the bios. There could be corrosion under the CPU or there could be a memory failure. If it does not properly load bios and move on it will do this. check your 3V3 SUS, make sure your bios chip is...

820-00928 ( Bad Touch ID button ) will apple help?

I have a 820-00298 that has a bad Touch ID button. It was preventing 20v on the charger! After disconnecting it the machine boots! Problem is how do I replace it? Will apple fix it? Maybe if I disconnect it and give it to them they will replace it. I am sure when they connect it they will...

820-00928 (only shows battery low on screen) need schematics

I was not using the 85w I was using a 60w It now boots. I am on to a much bigger problem. The cause of the the machine failure was the touch ID button was shorted out. I have the button on the bench and see corrosion on the back switch. I want to tear it apart but would like input form...

820-00928 (only shows battery low on screen) need schematics

I assume this is because my charger is too small? It came with no boot. Figured out that the Touch-bar is shorted and if removed allows the machine to get 20v. now it switches to 20v and but displays "Low battery" on screen and does not boot. Just cycles that. I am pretty new to these boards.

Question about Medusa2 and "no chip found", etc.

Medua update. I have finally got it working well. I manually put it in easy flash mode and it does pretty good. There are still some board it won't detect that my conventional programmer will but I have just got used to injecting power when needed.

    BGA rework questions

I use a Metcal APR-5000 and I am faced with having to buy a custom nozzle to fit a Intel CPU or to just use a big nozzle I already have and reflow a larger area. The nozzles for my machine are expensive. I just got a email back from the supplier and for them to custom make me a nozzle for a...

Question about Medusa2 and "no chip found", etc.

I have both a conventional USB programmer with adapters and a Medusa. The Medusa is a little picky. I can read, program, flash, with a standard programmer much easier than with the Medusa. I like the Medusa when it works. But it does not work often. I was thinking my machine was broken. I just...

    820-00165 (Bouncing Betty)

This board is a pain in my ass! quick 300mA bounce. No shorts, All rails measure good for the brief time they are alive. All SYS PWRGD is present "while it in the bounce". I cant find anything wrong with the ring of fire "3V3 switches" I checked SMC Logic. Something is shutting this...

820-00281-A "The big Dog!" ( no image. Boot looping )

Yes, Fan spin, usb activity, power button functions to turn off and on. I am digging in deeper now. I believe the board is functioning. I am getting both the PP3V3_SOSW_LCD and the PP5V_SOSW_LCD signals after a brief wait period of booting. I do not have a test LCD and believe this one...

820-00281-A "The big Dog!" ( no image. Boot looping )

My reference board I purchased on eBay which I thought was a booting board because I could see current draw and activity at 20v turns out suffered the exact same fate as this board. Same symptoms and same problem. No display. I also compared thermal signatures and they were exactly the same. No...
