Im not too sure on the history. the board wasnt powering on but getting to an s3 state. Replaced the resistor because it was giving a low value compared to known good and that got it to fan spin. board has no PPVCORE_S0_CPU rail.

After replacing r7978 and getitng the board into an S0 state with fan spin I get no image or chime seems likes its brain dead. Fans will spin fast but nothing happens no image on screen nothing on external either. any ideas?

The system had water damage when i got it. the area above the cpu was the most damaged replaced all the components that were barely hanging on to the board that made it turn back on then i ran into that odd battery issue. Holding the power button for 5 seconds on startup makes it work just fine...

system detects and charges battery but wont run off of it. when i do an smc reset it runs off of it for a short period and on the problem comes back. when i hold the power button for 5 seconds on startup it boots off of battery fine. any ideas?

Clean up corroded areas replace anything that looks damaged check lcd connector and cable for damage check to see if you get an image using flashlight on screen after making sure everything corroded or damaged has been taken care of and still no image or backlight try an ultrasonic cleaning...

board does seem to have had some water damage pp5v_s3 = 1ohm resistance pp3v3_s3 = .19mohm resistance pp3v3_s5 = .005mohm resistance pp0v9_s5 = 313.03 ohm resistance pp3v3_fw = 15kohm and rising ppvp_fw = 6.45mohm resistance pp1v05_fw = 279ohm resistance

Shorting power pads does nothing. PM_PWRTBN_L toggles when pressing power button.

Measured again i get 110kohm sometimes 4mohm it fluctuates a known good does the same as well.

3v3_s5 is present resistance to gnd on 3v42 is 2.790kohm

Resistors on the circuit check out, bad mcp/smc?

Try checking around the mux area. I had gotten some "bad gpu" boards before which were only knocked off components fixed one a day ago. Always good to double check.

Problem solved image back to normal after replacing r9655.

so let me correct myself r9663 and r9655 were knocked off. replaced r9663 before realizing r9655 was missing. booted and got a good image but after a couple minutes went back to distortion. replaced r9655 twice because it wont go above 5.39kohm but should be 100ohm or 1% within it...

got them mixed up its r9655 thats not going above 5.39kohm but yes the board has most likely been messed with before.
