2915 and 2914 GPU with green dot

Every time I get a board in that has a GPU with a little green dot on it, the BGA site solder mask is always raked to shit. They are always a pain in the arse.
Thing is, plenty of boards have been worked on already and they dont have that green dot and they are usually alright.
Any idea what's going on with the dreaded green dot boards?

If there is no edge bonding then that would be possible.
