820-00165 / power on only if ribbon connector disconnected.

hi guys ,

the board looks clean after inspection . it powers on only when dcjack/audio board ribbon connector (821-1722-a) unplugged . the jack . no tace of liquid on or under j500. i have tried with a new audio board and ribbon cable but same result .
When the cable is plugged in the charging light stays on and goes orange as normal . the voltage on ppbus_g3hot = 8.54v with the ribbon connected or without being connected

kindly advise .
thanks

hi ,
thanks for the reply , what would be stopping it from powering on as removing the ribbon cable brings it to life . there is no corrosion/damage present .

I would check inside the connector and the ribbon very carefully. i've had some of these where something gets stuck inside the connector and either bridges some pins or screws up the ribbon.

Not much on that connector that could prevent boot. Either SMC_LID or FINSTACKSNS being pulled low or 3V3_S0 or 5V_S0 being shorted to GND.
I still suspect a parts issue, bad cable or IO board.

hi ,
thanks for the reply and the information . i have looked at the connector carefully but i am not able to see any thing wrong with it . i am also trying to load the pic but i am receiving error of wrong file extension.
smc _lid = 3.3 v
FINSTACKSNS = 0.05 and 3v3_S0 =.05 WHEN THE RIBBON CABLE IS PLUGGED IN . ______ these two are going down

PP5V_S0_ALT_AUD_LDO_EN goes into r9501 ( no stuff) .

i have attempted with new board and new ribbon cable . so far same result . there is not short to ground on any of these lines .
any thing else need to be looked at before i remove the connector .

kindly advise

Uhm, send me a picture of the plugged in cable please....

And of course 3v3 so and finstack will be 0 as the board is not powering on. I asked for a short to GND.

hi ,
thanks for the response , there is no short to ground on when the cable is connected , the reading on continuity or diode mode is
PP3V3_S0 = .658

finstack alt= 1.298 when uplugged no reading = tested on r5210 ..

Regarding the pic , i am tryin to upload but they are failing with extension error .

There is no use is pulling the connector without figuring out what is going on.
The measurements you give are the with cable AND IO board connected?

Please post a picture of the cable plugged in, not just the connector, Just take it from your phone without the microscope.

I have no idea. Only thing I can advice is to check all Odd number pins on diode mode and compare to a good board. This is with IO board connected.
