820-2914 Quarter fan spin

Hi.

Board came in, quarter fan spin.
I happened to hold it with my thumb on the BIOS chip for a little while and then it worked. Cooled off, no work. Thumb on, worked.

Re-flowed the chip and now it powers every time. I will of course change the chip but someone please tell me why or point me to a link for an explanation please?

MX chip? They do fail sometimes. You can heat them up and read them and flash it over into another one.

I'll have to do some reading on the physical construction to have a hope of figuring out how the heat helps but for now I think I'll read the chip and get paid.

Flashed a new chip and replaced. Should be OK with new EEPROM right?

Thought as much.

There is no way I would send a machine out as working simply by heat blasting SPI ROM chip. That's what the forum is all about right?... To repair things properly!
