820-3023-A *Power button shuts macbook down, but cant turn it back on*

i just got a 820-3023-A in, The macbook will not power on with the power button, But i use the charger and it powers right on and stays on without the charger. the keyboard seem 100% functional and i can use the power button to turn the macbook off but it will not power on with the power button. also the charger is charging with an orange light. Any ideas in where i should start testing?

What is the voltage on the "power on" pads(R5015/16) with power button pressed and without?
SMC_LID at 3.3V?

R5015 W/ power button = 3.4v W/out power button = 3.4v R5016 W/ power button = .4v w/out = 3.4v

SMC_LID = 1v

SMC_LID is wrong, it should be at 3.4V. Probably corrosion on the cable to the IO board or the connectors.
Disconnect IO board flat cable and power on from the battery and see if power button works.

Right, I disconnected the IO board flat cable and tried to power on from battery but no luck. i also tried replacing the IO board and flat cable with no luck as imagined.

Wht didn't you measure SMC_LID and see if it had any effect? Check corrosion the the connector on the board. Basically anywhere that SMC_LID goes, check the diagram.
Also goes to the trackpad....R5071.
SMC_LID must be 3.3V, with the LCD opened of course.

hi duke, okay so i finally had time to get back to this board. I rechecked the smc lid and it is 3.3v at the j5700 j4700 r5071, i believe i might have checked the smc lid with the lid closed the first time not thinking.
Still no power button. don't see any corrosion anywhere

What is the voltage on SMC_ONOFF_L with and without power button pressed?

I had a similar issue with a macbook air, except i found that i didn't have 3v to the pad for the keyboard ribbon. i ran a wire from the power on pad to the pad on the connector and problem solved. If i had to guess there was an issue with the trace to the connector and it wasn't receiving the voltage to be shorted to ground on the connector. Hope this helps.

J5700 SMC_onoff_L =3.4v for both, power button pressed on and off.

Well, it should drop down when you press the power button. So either bad keyboard, bad trackpad or cable or the connector on the board.

yeah that's kinda where i was leaning this morning. I'm going to recheck everything there and see what seems to be going on. could be connector on the board like you just said since i did try testing with different key and track but possible i did something wrong when checking so will double check and figure this out from here.
