HDD recovery

hi all, i got a HDD in for data extraction, but it apears to be dead.

if i connect it to a dockstation (know good dock station) the computer wont see the disk. the lichts on the staion wont blink.

(witch normaly they do when reading the disk)



can you guys tell me a bit about HDD recovery. and if i can measure somethings to see if the pcb is dead?

good chance the board is gone, i had a wd time ago that had the same issue and i manage to fix the board long enough to clone it (a simple diode was fucked) otherwise you may try to find a donor board with the same model number and rev, swap the ROM chip of the dead board on the good one and pray it works

if there isn't any rom chip you need to swap the whole main controller (always praying it still works)

Or do the professional way: Acelab pc3000 UDMA and a donor board/HDD

i am sorry duke did indeed mis to report,

no it does not spin.
also if i lay my finger on it i dont feel any tremble movement
it also makes no sound. no klik

You have to swap the EEPROM. Some boards don't have one and the adaptation is stored in the controller. First check if there is an EEPROM or it will all be a waste of time.
