Question about HDD data recovery

Hi guys,

Sometimes we get requests for HDD data recovery. I know that opening HDD and messing with heads is a whole different level of repair and is not for ordinary repair shop. However, in some cases it might be be a question of swapping pcb with calibration chip, which I can certainly do. However, I was wondering how do you troubleshoot if that is the problem? Obviously not when its Click of Death but what about when the drive is being detected in OS just cant read data off it?

click of death can also be caused by a bad board.

So should always try to swap the board with the calibration chip first? If that doesnt work send it to data recovery center for opening up the the disks. Will try next time.
