Best to use low melt solder to remove the shield covering the contact points and then more low melt to get the through hole joints to come loose. I use a donor board for a new port same technique. I've only done a few, but all were successful, so it can definitely be done. Only pain part is once you get ready to put new port on cleaning out the old solder from the holes.
