replaced the gpu. now i get a large grey bar. takes about 10 min to boot up. tried putting old gpu back in, same issue. what did i do? (btw osx is 10.6.8 so there should not be a grey bar during bootup) also tried pram reset.

Is it doing an EFI update?

Is it the original spindle driver? If so, did you try a different HDD?

Is the drive encrypted?

Simple corrupted OSX. Use diskwarrior to see if it can repair it. Else backup and reinstall.
