Ok I did replace R5000 and got green and oranges lights back. Still no fan spin.
I tried swapping the SMC and still no change. I am not sure the donor was any good and I don't stock such an old model. Been trying to find another replacement. Will update ASAP.
Thanks for everything till now...
Thanks. Oh and not saying it is special. We see it a lot with iOS devices under similar conditions.
But saying I did not use to encounter it so much before when repairing Macs with older OS'.
When you asked about U5000 I checked voltages and SMC_RESET_L was 0.15V on Pin 1 of U5000. Measured more than once.
I am assuming data line from U7000 to SMC is SMC_AC_OK? If yes, not shorted, voltage drop is 0.497.
Also green light on charger sometimes comes back.
The last few repairs I had this occurrence across different models (MacBook Air, Retina, and IIRC a third older one with built-in DVD), following liquid damage repair.
Once I have fan spin and mount the board back in the housing, I notice the OS loads ¾ then drops and turns off.
In all 3 cases...
What voltage is PPBUS_G3H? 12.23v or 12.56? Latter is good SMC, former is usually bad? 12.27V
What's the resistance between pins 17/18 & 27/28 of U7000? 20.5 Ohm and 20.5 Ohm
How does U5000/U5001 area look? Clean, no pry damage, nothings seems burnt, no evidence of liquid damage on the board...
It is an old post, but I'd like to add my experience.
I've noticed that once the SATA-HDD cable goes bad, the HDD itself is soon to follow. I always advise the customer to replace them bother together or keep his stuff backed-up. Since doing this approach had much less issues.
Also the SATA-HDD...
Hi,
We have two 820-2530 not powering up - no fan spin at any moment, exhibiting:
Green then orange light on charger, then we try to jump start by shorting pin 5 to ground, and the orange light disappears for a few seconds, only green remains. Then orange comes back.
Anyone can help with any...
Older is what I have on hand. It is properly soldered. Otherwise I can harvest a 2012 connector. New ones need 1 more week.
Will measure everything else tomorrow with known good display and report back.
HISTORY: board previously worked on, fucked-up connector, shorted back-light circuit, PPVOUT_SW_LCDBKLT also shorted to ground.
PROBLEM: no display, but have display on external screen.
Cleared short on backlight, got backlight but no display. Replaced connector, lost back-light, going to...
dukefawks thanks, I will check on Monday when I get back to the workshop. I did not find evidence of liquid, and the laptop doesn't seem dropped.
I suspect attempts at heating/reflowing the GPU. And during that previous repair attempt may be they dropped the board itself. Otherwise, nothing...
820-2915 fan spin for 6-7 seconds, CPU gets very hot, then it shuts off.
G3H, 3.3V remain present.
5V => I have PP5V_S5 and PP5V_SUS. PP5V_S3 and PP5V_S0 die out when it shuts off.
I would like to start it just enough to have it fail the GPU test and get replaced by Apple.
Any leads?
Yes I had that already. A 4s had water damage and the PMU had internal short. I replaced it with a new one from China and it would not turn on as a power rail was missing. I thought I had a bad install but reflowing and reballing did not solve. I harvested a PMU and this time it worked and all...
820-2850 / 2010 has dual boot.
On bootcamp, screens turns off (laptop needs restarting) if we launch AutoCAD.
On OS X, it happens if we launch Photoshop.
I am assuming VGA.
Should I investigate anything or give it back?
