Hello wonderful people! Congrats on the new forum - looks great.
I have a problematic laptop here which I need help with.
The history...
It DEFINITELY has no liquid damage
The person I got it from claims that it was working perfectly, they changed the battery (for a non-genuine one) and then...
Hi,
I received this yesterday, see photos attached. Since taking them i have removed 6 shorted caps and ultrasonically cleaned all the crap. I haven't gone any further than this. Wondering at this stage, do i proceed with bothering to fix this, or is it a garbage board? One saving grace...
Duke, you were, of course right. The left side of R8178 had lost continuity, it DID have it, but it lost it, even though the pad underneath looked fine. I had to run a wire round to the other side of the board, connecting to the right side of R1462, which was actually measuring for PM_SLP_S3_L...
That's a replaced R8178, from a donor - it measures 100ohm as it should and has continuity on both sides. I don't think it is related to this problem, since PM_SLP_S3_L should be generated before reaching it and it isn't? The last photo shows u6100 area on the left, but not through microscope -...
No Title
Annoyingly I didn't take a photo of the R8178 area before cleaning and repairing it. The resistor and one probe point were VERY corroded, the resistor literally fell right off. Really weird cause there is literally no sign of corrosion around u6100.
I did take a photo of the...
I got this board in because it was SOMETIMES turning on, and sometimes not. The device was reaching S0 state, but still not turning on sometimes.
I found almost no liquid damage, apart from two tiny spots. One spot had discoloured a capacitor (C3282), which i replaced even though it wasn't...
Well, I've given up. I replaced the connector and still no luck. There doesn't seem to be a problem inside the board as each line is present in every place it's meant to be present. It's a mystery forever i guess. Maybe the other SMC i have is also faulty, i'll never know as i have no more...
Ah yes - the fan thing was indeed simply the trackpad not being connected.
I haven't actually replaced the magsafe connector on the board - it looked absolutely perfect and there's no corrosion anywhere so i just re-soldered the pins on the board. I figured since it's just a dumb 5-pin...
I've noticed that when i start up the board with just the battery, keyboard and screen connected, that the fans seem to blare up to full speed - kinda like when SMC bypass is on, but they gradually do it during the bootup. Perhaps the other SMC i've put on is also faulty :/. I'm guessing a...
I've checked R6929 - it's a solid 2k
There's no corrosion anywhere on the board.
I removed u6900 and used diode mode, red on ground, black on sys_onewire - i got 0.7v
Yeah i just tried yet another magsafe, taken from a machine it is currently working in - still not working. I just don't understand :'(.
Any suggestions of places i could check for leak resistance/capacitance on the one-wire? i will re-solder the magsafe connector on board but im pretty sure...
So, i replaced U6900/01 and it made no difference. I bit the bullet and replaced the SMC - but still no difference! Exactly the same symptoms with the replacement SMC.
Weirdly, with the new SMC ppbus_g3h now measures 12.57v, but i'd assume the extra 0.03v is not a problem.
Any other ideas to...
Hey everyone - i've been doing this work for a few years now, but have registered because i'm totally stuck on a board.
So I had a guy come in for a battery replacement the other day - i went to plug it in and realised that it wasn't working off the charger either - he hadn't picked up that...
