    [SOLVED]820-3437 - PPBUS_G3H short to ground

Fixed! There was a crack in C7620 I didnt spot before. Customer actually found it before I got around to trying your trick, duke. I'm surprised it didn't heat up more, I couldnt feel it with my hand. Alcohol barely evaporated faster than on the components around it.

    [SOLVED]820-3437 - PPBUS_G3H short to ground

No liquid damage, and no visible damage at all. F7140 is dead and has 0 Ohm to ground on pin 2 (PPBUS_G3H). I hooked up my lab supply and fed it 1V first, then 1.7. CPU didnt warm up. I eventually ended up at 8V with a 3 amp draw, but couldnt find any component heating up. Is this a short to...

A thank you to Louis, Duke and all of you guys

My sentiments exactly. Wouldn't be close to where I am now boardrepair-wise without their efforts. Thanks!

    Thanks, good stuff :)

DC Jack to Magsafe - Is this /any/ good?

Probably no better than a knockoff. I'm looking for some original ones as well to hook up to my supply. WTB broken adapters, heh.

    Liquid Damage Samsung Laptop

I'd first of all get a higher alcohol concentration Isopropanol. I'm using 99.9% which means I know its all going to be gone when it dries up. The 91% you're using leaves 9% of 'something else' which may or may not end up staying in the area you want to clean up. Stubbornly sticky keys tend to...

    Customer not collecting/paying for repair

Haven't had that problem yet, but a colleague of mine has a drawer full of never picked up phones. He's had them for years, but I think he's going to sell them off now. He was saying he'd go for a 6 month 'serve as customers junkyard' period and then get rid of them, but I too would like to know...

    Crappy keyboards

I'm giving them a shot to replace these. If I end up with wobbly keys a second time I'm done with them. I'll take a look at your suggestion Smiba, thanks. And thanks duke for confirming what I was afraid would be the case. Its not particularly easy to get good mac parts.. So much more poorly...

    Crappy keyboards

I ordered a couple of A1278 keyboards from one of my suppliers, who normally ships good stuff. Two of them are 'okish' and one is terrible. See below for just how terrible: This isn't from improperly seating the keyboard or not cleaning or whatever. It looks just like that when you take it...

    820-4924 aht - ppf004

This macbook came in not turning on. Customer tells me no liquid, no fall, bump or anything. She used it normally the day before, next day it wont switch on. I take it apart - logic board is completely clean and pristine both sides, all connectors/jacks. Nothing nasty anywhere. Before you ask...

    Charger costs

Expensive, but people walk into the apple world with both eyes open. Like hell if I'm going to buy a laptop (or other device) that expensive without spending some time on research beforehand. I know how many people can't be arsed to do so, but then who is to blaim? Besides, if you can spend the...

    820-00164 wont get past S5

I tried with a different I/O board, same thing. I only have one Magsafe 2 charger. Not really willing to cough up €90 for another one. Besides, this one a few months old and hasn't seen much use yet. I'm going to look over everything I've done another time, make sure I haven't got an IC placed...

    820-00164 wont get past S5

Just did a little further testing to make sure I'm not being crazy or if its a random occurance. Its not. It will happen if I touch it with a screwdriver (though it seems to be harder with those, gotta touch it a few times), tweezers, MM probe, no matter. something metal. If its something with a...

    820-00164 wont get past S5

So much for tomorrow. .. SPU_CS0_R_L is fine at 3.34V. Board is driving me nuts. Sometimes its no fan spin at all, sometimes theres an 8 second fan spin and then nothing, sometimes it will do the 8 seconds spin and then continuous spin afterwards, but I get no image. One oddity I noticed -...

Replaced SMC - no change. Still getting 8 second fan spin 'sometimes'. Mose of the time nothing but a green and then orange light. I've checked the BIOS chip with my scope. While the fan is off, it is outputting a flat 3.3V on pin 1 through 8, save for GND of course. No data to be seen.

I've first heated the SMC to pre-reflow temp, no change. I've reflowed, didn't help either. Today, I've replaced every IC that had corrosion prior to putting it through the UC, no change so far. I'll replace the SMC and report back.

    Glue and connectors

I ended up ordering CW2500 (two syringes, needs mixing) just before aprendiz replied, turns out to be similar stuff to whats inside those pens, but it can withstand a much higher temperature. Should some soldering or hot air be required after using this epoxy, I can do it without ruining my...
