hi there!
this one had a lot of liquid damage on the SMC area. i have replaced that twice. I can confirm that the lid sensor was also damaged but i fixed that too. now the issue is when i try to restart, i have to cut power completely, unplug battery and DC and plug back in to turn on. if i...
hmm, they all check out perfectly, even checked diode mode on pins with known good board. I see that come components there communicate directly with SMC, do you think SMC can cause no image? there was corrosion on the SMC_onoff_L test point near the SMC
small amounts of liquid damage in multiple areas. There is USB activity, chime is there, fans spin up when battery is disconnected as if it's booting. backlight is there. Tested with known good screen, nothing but backlight.
Also it doesn't seem to turn off backlight if I close the lid. So...
Just wanted to update this thread for others, it actually turned out to be the LVDS cable. Very odd behaviour from a cable fault but it's fixed so that's good!
Ok you are correct, it's actually the screen. so strange. Just plugged in a cracked tester screen and it goes all the way no problem. This is weird how the screen seems perfect until after startup.
Do you think it could be the LVDS connector? Think it's worth testing and replacing?
It's as if the lid is closed, except during boot i can close the lid and open at it'll react properly. Once you see the mouse, the screen goes off. Works on HDMI perfectly. When unplugging HDMI it'll come up on the MacBook screen for a split second before shutting off again. It's not just...
ok so the situation has changed completely now. Getting 20V now, trackpad clicks, nothing on screen and then it restarts (can only tell because the trackpad stops being clickable for a couple of seconds)
Judging by the amount of current going in I wouldn't say it's charging the battery
Nothing comes up on amp meter (doesn't even turn on) Checked for shorts on almost all big ish caps on the board, all good. Lines seem to have little to no voltage (hard to tell what lines they are without board view)
Any common issues on these? I checked a new port already
Visual, it was pretty lucky. Was frustrated with the board. Could't find anything wrong so I checked basically every component under the scope. This one was brown
Ok, I fixed the board. For those reading here's what caused all these very strange issues... R7990 was blown. 5K ohms (supposed to be 0 ohms). Replaced that and bam!
