    820-00164 Won't Install Firmware Update

That is correct - HS installed fine and upgraded to Mojave, but the Big Sur update fails. Re-flashed the original BIOS just to make sure I didn't damage anything on the board, and we're back to square one with the board booting but not updating. Also definitely see the value in a Medusa now...

    820-00164 Won't Install Firmware Update

Hmm, tried a file from here on the forum and one from BadCaps, both of them lead to the board cycling power. Couldn't find any other ones (they lead to dead links), do you know if there are any other files out there I can try? I have a backup of the original BIOS as well, but if the chip was...

    820-00164 Won't Install Firmware Update

Will give that a shot! Sorry, forgot to mention - tried as far back as High Sierra. Got high Sierra to update to Mojave, but not any further.

    820-00164 Won't Install Firmware Update

I have an A1465 on my bench with a really weird issue. It came in because the customer tried to update to Big Sur and the update failed and split his OS partition into 3. I backed up the data and wiped/tried to install Monterey from a freshly downloaded App Store copy on a USB drive and it fails...

    TPS62180 Alternative?

Hi all, I have an 820-01598 that came in no power, 5v 0.01a. Missing PP3V3_G3H_RTC and the area around U6903 and the chip itself are gross. Only problem is, I don't have a donor and Mouser + DigiKey are both out of stock. Suppose I could order from Aliexpress but the closer the better. Any other...

    820-00165 BIOS Needed

Hi all, I have an 820-00165 that came in with it's BIOS chip wiped off the map. Got a new one from a donor board and I've tried downloading the files with clean ME available on the forum and editing the SN/fixing checksum, and while I followed through Piernov's videos and managed to flash/verify...

    820-3115 Power Issues

Sorry, I misunderstood your process for removing the resistors, after reading some more threads I realized you wanted me to remove one, test, then replace that one and move onto the next - I removed one, then left that one off and moved onto the next. I just re-tested by replacing R7964 and...

    820-3115 Power Issues

It was R7965, so the finger points back to U7200. Pin 23 is only 0.204V and diode is 212. That seemed low so I checked in ohms, the meter was flashing OL without ever being able to settle on a number. Not sure where else to go from here.

    820-3115 Power Issues

Had to lift R7963, R7964, and R7965 then ALL_SYS_PWRGD went high. No change otherwise though, other than.... This last time I plugged the board in, I noticed this time it was only pulling 0.009A and I lost my power rails. Touched the board to move it around and something burned my finger on the...

Q7950 1: 0.033V 5: 1.075V 6: 3.29V 7: 1.505V Also noticing now that the PCH gets hot after sitting plugged in for 5 or so mins. I take it that's not good...

Looks like ALL_SYS_PWRGD is still low. Will do some backtracking and see what rails I'm missing

    820-3115 Power Issues

Update: After reading some forum posts, I replaced U2600 on a hunch. I now get consistent green light. PP5V_S3: 3.3V PM_SLP_S4_L: 3.3V Power supply is drawing 0.226A. No fan spin.

    820-3115 Power Issues

    I do now have 3V3_S5 present at L7220. I don't have PP5V_S3 though. PM_SLP_S4_L is 0v. C1802/1803 are 3.3v

    820-3115 Power Issues

Just to check my understanding so far. U7200 needs Pin 6 to be low, Pin 13 to be high, and 13/17 to be at 3.3v and 5v. So this chip is now functioning correctly?

    820-3115 Power Issues

    Whoops, sorry. Completely forgot to check again. U7200 3: 2v 6: 0.757v 8: 3.3v 13: 3.3v 16: 12.6v 17: 5v So PP5V_S5 has returned.

    820-3115 Power Issues

Changed U7200, double checked all the solders/traces. Am now getting VREF: 679 VREG3: 637 VREG5: 503 L7260 seems really low, diode is 144, L7220 is 390. Does this mean something is pulling PP5V_S3 down?
