I'm using schematic and boardview from badcaps, posted by piernov, p=978378. Hopefully that's enough to find it without me breaking any forum rules. The boardview is a bit weird looking but so far seems accurate
Hi, thank you so much for helping.
No target disk mode, sadly. Tried powering up while pressing T but nothing shows up on screen and plugging it into other machine doesn't detect anything. Wish it did so I could get the customer's data back.
By CPU_Vcore I assume you mean PPVCC_S0_CPU, i think...
Got my first Macbook Pro 16" to fix, customer spilled wine on it.
Damage in a few areas, mainly:
J4900 burned, I removed it for now to clean the board. some corrosion on small components nearby
Slight corrosion on C9080, removed it too
Some liquid near U7650 but no visible corrosion
Some liquid...
ok, thank you. I will call this done and see what customer thinks, but I don't think it's that bad. Maybe they can get a new display from apple when the backlight flex fails haha
the effect is very faint, and consistent at all display angles. I've cleaned the small (i mean tiny) bits of corrosion on the display board and backlight connectors, but it made no change. Looks clean under the shields but I haven't removed them. Anything else I can do without changing screen or...
JBC are very nice, but I can't afford right now. I managed to replace C2975 and C2978 with soldering iron and assistive hot air, now short is gone and machine powers on.
Only issue left seems to be slight stagelight effect at bottom of screen. Could this be cause by liquid damage or is it the...
got this laptop in from a customer. Small signs of liquid damage near usb ports, especially on C2975 and C2978. I don't usually work on the newer models so just wanted some advice before I dive in.
I get 20V on both usb ports but 0.01-0.03A so not turning on
I cleaned the corrosion with alcohol...
so, I have an 820-2850 board that's acting weird.
If I plug in the charger, the board will power cycle somewhere between 5-20 times roughly (pulsing the s0 rails) until it will boot further (I can tell because the optical drive will make a noise). Sometimes I get picture when this happens and...
I had a customer come in with the exact same issue! Even down to the placement of the green/black line. The customer said they'll try to get apple warranty repair but I always assumed it was just a display issue. Crazy to think it might be a board problem
So, I know this is an old machine but this customer has been good to me and I wanna be nice
When plugging in my 85W magsafe I get green light but the board doesn't come on automatically like on other models. However, if I short the pads at R5015, it will power on, fan spins and the computer...
So I have an 820-3115 board. No obvious liquid spill but some green probe points from humidity
Will always power from battery, however if using charger only behaviour is random
Sometimes no green light, sometimes green light but no boot, sometimes it'll boot like normal
Once on it will stay on...
so, I kinda got busy with other jobs and put this aside for a week. Yes I have PM_DSW_PWRGD at 3.4v and PCH_DSWVRMEN at 3.2v.
Still can't see any pulses on pm_slp_s5, s4, s3. I have one of the small "pocket oscilloscopes". I know they're generally junk but I've used it before to see pm_slp...
yes sorry, think PCH_INTVRMEN_L is on other boards.
I'll check all signals and report back. if I heat PCH, should I clear edge bonding on cpu first, or just flux and boil at 150-200C as it is?
Thanks
Hi! I did use sweep function, but still, sometimes things happen I guess.I've had another look at the board and I can't really see anything ripped off.
I'm sorry, I'm not intimately familiar with the power on sequence on these. Where can I find it/what signals should I be checking?
Alright, this one kept me up all night.
Have an 820-00165 that came in with corrosion in a few places, namely around U7600 and R1673 area. Was missing S0_CPU originally, replaced a resistor for S0 cpu power (can't remember which one, sorry) and that fixed it, managed to boot into os and...
