I got this 16" MacBook pro in with minor liquid damage and no power. The liquid damage was on the LCD connector on the screen side and it had a partial short on PP3V3_S5. I replaced U9850 and that fixed the short on PP3V3_S5 and the board turns on and boots to the OS using an external monitor...
I found the issue! It was a broken trace on PP1V8_SUS. I ran a wire to reconnect that and now everything seems to be working like it should. I will have to do some more testing though to make sure its 100% functional, but thanks for the help.
Yea it would seem likely that there is something wrong with the trackpad, since that was where the original damage was, but I have checked all the pins on the connector and they match with a good board. Also checked the keyboard connector and that is good also. The whole computer works fine...
All SMC_LID signals stay low when the lid is closed. I booted to a external USB drive and then I closed the lid and it does the same thing where the fans stop but power is still cycling. When you open the lid, the screen turns back on and shows the login screen, but fans still ramp up to max...
Sorry yes it does drop when the fan turns off and then comes back right before they come on again. Sometimes when I close it, the fans turn off and then go back on right after and ramp up to high speed. Other times when I close it, the fans turn off and stay off, but the amps are jumping all...
Well when I have it on and I close the lid, the fans turn off after a few seconds and then they turn back on now and the board reboots itself with high fan spin and flashing folder. PM_SLP_S3_L seems to stay high the whole time.
I put this board to the side to work on some other things, but now I am trying to fix this one again. I was comparing diode mode values on this board vs a good board and found that U4540, U3760, and U3770 were bad. I replaced those and now my diode mode reading match my good board and I seem to...
Hello. I have a 820-00928 board that had liquid damage around U4200, U3900 area and PPBUS was shorted to ground inside the board under Q3501. I was able to dig the short out and replaced Q3501. I cleaned and replaced a bunch of corroded resistors around U4200 also and the board turned on and...
I did not find any shorts on the LDO rails but I found that LDO_CORE was OL when I was checking, which seems to indicate it was not connected to U7800. I removed U7800 again and checked continuity and it looks like the trace is broken. I found a few broken traces to U7800 so I don't think board...
I replaced U7000 and U7800 on this board but no change. R5220/21 seem to be good. One thing I noticed is without the battery connected, I do not have any voltages on my SSD rails. When I connect a charged battery and a charger to it, I do get all the SSD voltages steady for about 30 seconds, and...
I get .362 in diode mode on that rail on this board, which seems normal and does match a good board. I do not seem to get any other voltages from the PMU.
PP3V3_G3H_RTC - 3.3v
PP3V3_G3H_PMU_VDDMAIN - 0v
PP1V8_SLPS2R - 0.375v
PP1V1_SLPS2R - 0v
PP0V8_SLPS2R - 0v
PP1V2_AWAKE - 0v
PP3V3_AWAKE - 0v...
This board was liquid damaged but not very badly. Some corrosion around U6903 and PP3V3_G3H_RTC was shorted to ground. I removed U6903 but it was still shorted so I injected voltage and found U7800 was getting hot. I removed U7800 and the short was gone. I replaced both U6903 and U7800 from the...
I replaced the SMC on this board, but same issue. I can get it to boot to the SSD and then it seems to work fine. If I leave it open and let it go to sleep, after only about a minute or so, the fans start to go slowly ramp up to max and then it shows me a flashing folder icon. If I hold the...
I think PP1V8_S5 was 1.8v stable but now the board decided to commit suicide overnight. I came back to it this morning and it was giving me 20v 300ma and the right side of the board was getting hot. Now both PP1V8_SSD0 and PP0V9_SSD0 are shorted to ground, even after removing U9500, so I believe...
Hello. I have a 820-01700 board that had minor corrosion on a bunch of areas of the board, mostly on the back side around the edges. I cleaned the corroded areas and replaced a few resistors and caps along the way. PPBUS_G3H was shorted to ground and I found the short was caused by either C6452...
