I went ahead and replaced U2800 and it did not change anything.
Looking around the area closer I discovered what could possibly damaged pads under a chip just to the north and east of U2800. I pulled it and found three damaged pads. One I am not sure where it goes. My schematic does not show...
This one has me stumped.
PP3V42 is good and was measured at the CD3215's
The CD3215's appear operational and light up on thermal normally.
None of the rails appear shorted. (but we are not getting 20v at this point)
There was water damage on this board. Most all the damage was localized round...
i have had bad touch ID on non T2 caused by water damage. Fixed one with a bad LED flash controller. But we were unable to get them paired or repaired by apple. This is the first I heard of the new T2 being able pair a new touch ID button. I thought it was interesting. Would love to get...
The battery could be bad. The Battery Management circuit could be damaged. I see this a lot in water damaged machines.
Check the voltage at the battery terminals with the power attached. Then check the battery plug with the battery unplugged. If it's dead there is your issue.
There is a...
I drop off MacBooks at a local authorized repair center for things like flex gate and butterfly keyboards as they fix them for free. I was talking to the repair guy today about Touch ID buttons and they "CAN" be reprogrammed if the machine has a T2 chip! They cannot be reprogrammed or...
I have a 820-00840-A That boots and works. But when I try to change the SN in LBE it won't detect it. If I replace the bios from another board same model, CPU ram and ME cleaning it won't boot. So I need this original bios SN fixed. My Medusa is messed up and they are sending me out...
I wanted to post a update to this thread. I am still having some Medusa problems. CMizapper is sending out a new one for some bios 3 missing error. Says I need a replacement unit. The manual reading of the bios with a programmer is more reliable and offers more flexibility. But the medusa...
This one is unlike any I have ever seen.
Initial problem. "no post" but power rails measured normal. My 3V3 and 5V rails that U7501 is responsible for were good! However the machine did pull about 200mA too much power.
Thermal imaging showed U7501 was getting too hot. I could not find...
The bios with the T2 chips requires the bios chip be removed and soldered onto a level splitter as they don't use 3v3 logic anymore. The T2 is a whole new animal. If this was a A1466 I would agree with cleaning the ME. In this case I think it is a rabbit hole.
it takes little time to confirm a dead CPU. Do some quick resistance checks on VCORE and PCH power supplies. I have fixed many boards that have been covered in flux by monkeys.
These are like the iPhone 7 home buttons. To repair them I had to get 30x eye pieces and a fiber optic ring light just to see the detail I needed. I also had to make my own soldering tips. These are not easy to fix! as far as programming them. You are toast.
I changed the battery. "That was fun"
same problem. So it is not the battery.
I do get USB activity. My SSD gets a blinking blue light. after a few seconds that does go out. The touch bar never lights up so I know it is not booting.
I am totally stumped on this one. I am going to...
>> schematics needed <<
Wow this one is weird.
With battery connected the machine will power on but will not display a image.
I get 20v on the charger, It charges the battery. I get fan spin. but in no way will it boot up or display any image.
This is the same situation with the charger...
Bueller, Bueller, Bueller. From one of my favorite stupid movies.
I just saw this fault a second time on a donor board I pulled the part from! My pulled part was also bad!
It can be tricky as it does not show up as a shorted rail.
After the repair the Touch ID button is still not functional...
