Hi everyone,
I was wondering if those two assemblies can be used on each other with the only difference being the presence of the kb backlight?
The customer doesn't want to pay a lot for a refurbished or "new" assembly (Which is understandable for a 7 year old machine) but I can't find any...
Holy shit... The only thing I can imagine happening is that someone already connected the display cable before screwing it on and then having dropped the display.
Can confirm that diskutil is the way to go, the new Disk Utility application sucks majorly and fails at 75% of the things I want to do. Even on my own macbook I have to use it every now and then to manage partitions
First time working on one of these macbooks.
This system will boot and work fine for a little moment (although slowly due failing sensors?) and then just crash with graphical glitches just as on its old friend the Macbook Air 2011.
Is this the same as with those, Bad CPU/Bad ram traces/Bad ram...
P3V3S5_EN_R high?
If yes maybe make sure R7516/46/60/61/63 are within specification. But 90% of the time its just a bad IC
Does anything look bad in the area?
The bios and clock chip area look abused
Can you try and see if the balls on U6101 look alright? If they look merged or messed up reball or replace it.
If you dumped the BIOS by using J6100 you can ignore this, but if you didn't make sure the BIOS (U6100) has proper connection to the board by...
If the values are similar enough and you can make it fit it should be alright for resistors and capacitors.
More advanced components like transistors are possible, but keep in mind not every transistor is alike. Many have slightly different specifications so always compare the datasheets, when...
That SMC looks reflowed without having the edge bonding removed...
You can see if the track is damaged by using diode mode. Voltage drop should be 0
Also this area looks really awful
By looking at the block diagram I think using the IMON signal is a good call. I'll try to see if there is a peak on there while also keeping an eye on CPUVR_PGOOD.
I have a small backlog so I'll probably have the results in a couple of days after I've finished some of the other repairs waiting :)
No Title
I've not yet resoldered U7330, I want to do that after catching two crashes.
I've only been able to crash it once today and I've attached the osciloscope output. I have one zoomed in output which clearly shows PGOOD going down before the VCore does this time and one big overview
Due...
/Technically/ you could solder it onto a circuit board using the same chip just to test it, but why bother? The chip is like $4, its not worth your time, just use a new one! :)
You didnt have to give it power... Just connecting or disconnecting the LCD and checking for a short while the board was powered off would've been enough.
Anyways this means it's not inside of the LCD. Already tried to replace the display connector with a new one? I often find that one to be...
The device is still crashing sadly.
No idea what it could be since PPVCC_S0_CPU is obviously being unstable as the last screenshot I posted shows.
CPUVR_PGOOD stays high so I doubt PP5V_S0_CPUVR_VDD or PPVIN_S0_CPUVR_VIN are being unstable as the chip resetting would definitely trigger...
Bad CPU or maybe bad traces to the ram. Like duke said, hopeless.
When a customer wants to bring in this model I always ask if it shows graphical glitches or "3 beeps". If its yes I usually don't even take it in anymore
