we refurbish this 820-00840 before selling it out to customer, about 2 month later customer complains that it randomly shuts down. 1 week about ~3 times.
we took back the laptop and now it does not boot at all.
Found out that when battery is not plugged in, it boots fine with just charger...
yeah. the point is to remove that chip to omit it from list of cause.
i don't see any other IC nearby that might have caused issue with pp5vs0. when issue happens i have pp5vs4 and pp5vs0_en but just no pp5vs0 output from u8209.
*edit* boot is booting normally now after a few days returning to...
revisiting this again as unit came back with the same issue. thinking might be the chip issue so replaced it, verifies that it booted and left on shelve for few days. Still same it doesn't boot now unless i put heat on that area. Can i jump pp5vs4 to pp5vs0 straight removing the chip?
Reflash Gmux again, same
remove GPU , same.
notice cpu and gpu both have been messed with previously.
no display on external as well
anymore ideas?
update*** i see display once!! loading bar went up to about 70% and went dead again. i guess its cpu
i tried PRAM Reset, at least now i hear the chime, so its in fact boot looping with hdd plugged in. without hdd it chime once and nothing running after that.
in SMC Bypass mode its also boot looping with max fan spin.
Yes R8904 is removed,
Tried the Ram, with new one as well. Thing is that it didn't beep like regular when no RAM was connected.
And actually i just realise that the front white status light will blink 5 times and stays dead. what does 5 blinks mean?
820-2915 came in for GPU Bypass as screen was showing artifact. Successfully Flash Gmux, boot up fine and returned to customer.
next day customer says laptop does not start, brought back and checked
Fan spins but does not post.
cpuvcore start with 1.15v and goes to 0.75V and jumps between...
macbook came in dead, after checking ppbus_g3h was only 1.5V. Replaced ISL chip and laptop successfully boot up(without battery)
so installed into chassis screwed in the battery and tested boot up fine with charging cable. 2nd restart macbook does not boot up anymore, measured ppbus_g3h back to...

i'm getting 20V on usb and board is pulsing voltage everywhere
No all_sys_Pwrgd. but found pp1v2_s3, followed by missing PM_MEMVTT_EN <- is this the en signal for pp1v2_s3? and would this be the cause for pulsing?
also PP3V3_S4SW_SNS missing also due to SMC_SENSOR_PWR_EN missing. which should...
so, i replaced all the resisters for the ISL(R7720,7721,7724,7790,7791) and Q7110 and still get the same results. pp3v3_s5 just blinks once and dead. Measured Pgood(pin8) never had any output which means ISL is in protection mode. but no idea what protection.
for good measure i injected 3.3v on...
Yes i have checked on p5vs3 lines as well and they are all within spec. i have injected 3.3v to pp3v3_s5 as well as 5v to pp5v_3 and both don't show shorts and have current draw less than 100ma
the only thing have not looked at is Q7110. measurements all looks good, gonna order some parts and...
