Don't have any history on this but was brought in with "Not turning on"
Upon removing the back case it looks like someone has removed the logic board and or the screen but no signs of any work to the logic board at all it looks like new with no signs or liquid damage anywhere on the logic or...
I have an A1398 here that was given to me with "not seeing hard drive" I test with good known ssd and board works perfectly.
I take a look at the ssd under the scope and notice this blown component -(see pic)
All components around this area seem to short to ground.
You can see the black...
OK, as I do so many of these identical macs the 2915, ( my wife is a school teacher and they have hundreds of these in her school so I'm always getting asked to repair them.)
I did have a backup bios, put back R8911 and got image with original screen,
Re flashed bios removed R8911 all good...
Ive only got bios files for this with GPU disabled., Can I just reset pram to reverse medusa gpu disable? Im sure there is a medusa setting to force pram reset.
What about no screen just backlight. Would keyboard trackpad issue cause this or you think the screen is fucked to? Trying to establish if its worth attempting to repair this? I don't have any donor parts for this to even try them.
Am I going mad or do these new air models not have the logic board number printed on them?
All I could find is this...
This lady just dropped this off telling me her 5 month old baby was sick on it. She said she cleaned it with baby wipes and now it won't come on!
(IT FUCKING STINKS!)
So...
3 - 0v
4 - 3.3v
6 - 3.26v
7 - 3,26v
I followed pin 3 back on the board all the way to R9678, where i get
GMUX_S3_PD_GND = 2.67v
LCD_PWR_EN = 11.9mV
Bit stuck now?
Still quarter fan spin is remove the RAM module? Yes was one of the first things I tried, no ram and different Ram modules,
Is AVREF_SMC present? Yes 3.28v
Understood.
Looks like these sensor readings are pretty much the same as when not in smc bypass.
This one for the scrap pile or anything else I can try?
In SMC bypass I get .
c5304 -2.2v
c5308 - 0v
c5314 - 2.88v
c5327 - 4.1MV
c5320 - 0v
c5267 - .669v
c5377 - 0v
c5330 - .5MV
c5335 - .8MV
c5403 - .325v
c5451 - 0v
c5433 -.397v
c5422 - .289v
c5461 - 0v
Not really sure what to do with this, Was hoping to find them all giving out a noticeable...
This is driving me nuts dude!
Came in with classic faulty amd GPU, and a crack in the glass of the screen( Screen still worked fine but glass cracked )
Removed R8911 and killed gpu with medusa and set an EFI password all worked great so set about changing the screen .
Put on what I had marked...
Gave this a go tonight, New territory for me but eager to understand this and get it down,.
Started to feel a little lost when getting so many 0v readings,
Doing this with board alone on desk and magsafe connected so getting constant quater fan spin as I measure,
c5304 -2.08v
c5308 - 0v...
In SMC Bypass I get high fan spin that stays on but no chime , no screen on and no activity.
Whats the best way to check and measure these dude, Should I go through each of these sensors checking for voltage going in and back out or should I be checking all the resistors to see if the values...
Smc bypass gives full fan spin but no boot.
I only use original 85 watt on the bench since my previous fuck ups.
Concerned about pram I've reset and even reflashed the bios with 2 known good bios files, and disabled gpu with medusa same outcome
