Looking for a little help tracking down a no backlight issue on a a1502 Macbook Pro with 820-4924 board. The machine chimes and is booting up and displaying a picture as seen by putting a flashlight behind the apple logo.
Any help on what specifically to start looking at to trace this down...
Working on a MacBook Air 2015 820-00165 that had minor liquid damage. It's not displaying any backlight. The machine fully boots and does display an image.
On Q7706 I'm seeing:
PIN 4 - 8.5V
PIN 3 - 8.5V that switches to 3V while booting
PIN 1,2,5,6 - 8.5V
Suggestions ?
From what I can see the single slot will only hold 4GB sticks. He's been told he needs to run 8 for some program he uses for work. I've tried putting single 8GB sticks and I just get the memory error beeps and no post.
Picked up a memory slot tester and after playing with it on other known bad boards so I knew what I was looking for when something wasn't right..... the tester reported that all connections were good. The tester basically looks like a regular DDR3 stick with a bunch of LED lights. If any of the...
I'm working on a Mid 2010 MBP 15" 2.66 i7 with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M that randomly reboots throughout the day. The crash report has the ominous "GPU Panic" as one of the first lines.
I can't seem to remember where I saw it but I'm pretty sure there was an older post about how reballing...
I had a 2010 MacBook Pro 17" come in the other day with a memory issue. Easily figured out that the bottom memory slot is intermittent and after a few minutes the machine would freeze or reboot itself or toss the dreaded 3 beeps if any memory module was in there. I did verify with several new...
LOL, too funny... after spending about 20 minutes tracing down and testing various points thats exactly what I did. I'm not the greatest with schematics so I'm sure you would have gotten to the same point in much less time. In the end I simply jumped J5660 Pin 1 to J5650 Pin 1. Both fans are...
I totally misread the initial values since I didn't have the board view / schematics when I initially posted this. Here are the values:
Dead Side
J5650 PINS:
1) 0.0v
2) 3.1v
3) 3.2v
4) GND
Working side:
J5660 PINS:
1) 4.9v
2) 1.67v
3) 0.8v
4) GND
Looks like PP5V_S0 should be sending 5v to...
I was able to obtain the boardview. Yes, the first thing we did was replace the fan thinking it was just a faulty fan. New one did the same thing. So we plugged the original fan into the 2nd fan position and it fired right up like normal. We then tried the other fan in the original position...
I'm working on a late 2011 A1297 17" MBP where one of the fans doesn't spin. The fan will move very slightly back and forth but not spin. The fan is actually good, it seems to be the power going to the fan from the connection on that side. The good side is kicking out 4.2v while the...
Turned out to be the I/O Board Cable. Didn't catch it at first because if you pull it off and put it back on it works for a short time. We were able to get it to fail by pressing on the board side connector while the cable was connected. If you fidgeted with it a little the magsafe would...
I'm working on a Early 2015 Macbook Air A1466 that had very minor liquid damage to the keyboard 2 months ago. The keyboard was replaced and all seemed fine until it came back today and it wouldn't charge. Using genuine apple magsafe 60w charger it would react and shows the charge icon on the...
Couldn't see any coorosion or anything else on the SMC with the scope but gave it a good side cleaning anyways. Reset the SMC (again) and now for some magic reason that totally escapes me it's working normally now. Honestly I don't know what combination of things , if anything I did at all...
Yepp found the boardview. PIN 14 from U7000 (SMC_BC_ACOK) shows no voltage at all. Nothing when off and nothing when connecting the charger (Yes, I did try with several original Apple chargers), and nothing when starting from battery. I repeated this test with and without the battery plugged...
I'm working on a A1278 MacBook Pro 13.3" - Mid 2012 that boots normally from the battery but will not charge 90% of the time. Occasionally the charger is recognized and shows a green then orange light and will charge the battery, BUT 90% of the time the charger is not recognized at all and there...
