820-00923-A not turning on - 20V 180mA on the charger

There's not much to say about history. This is in fact a laptop that comes from a friend of mine. It stopped working a while back, and he just stopped using it and got a new one. He eventually gave it to me so I could take a look, just in case I could revive it. He said it just stopped working...

820-00923-A not turning on - 20V 180mA on the charger

Hi, I have this board from an A1706 which is not turning on. I do get 20V from the charger. Checking power rails and big coils on the board, I can see that I'm not getting PP5V_S4_T_USBC and PP5V_S4_X_USBC (enable signal is driven low by CD3215s) Also PPVCCEDRAM_S0_CPU is not present (created...

    820-00840-A Backlight issue

In fact, digging around a little more, I was able to find a redriver chip. It's now soldered on my board, and I now have USB ports working fine. Looks like this was the last issue on this board, which seems to be fully functional. Thanks a lot !

    820-00840-A Backlight issue

redriver is indeed missing... Previous repair guy has removed it but not replaced it... I'll have to source new chips, all my donor boards already have this chip taken off. Thanks for the hint

    820-00840-A Backlight issue

Yeah, good spot. One of the two 0 Ohms resistors for the I2C bus to U8400 was damaged. Nothing visible at first, but in fact one of the metallic ends was detached from the rest of the resistor. When I probed it, since I was pushing on both ends with the probes, it actually made contact and gave...

    820-00840-A Backlight issue

No sign of liquid damage on the board. I do get image. I can see the Apple logo and it even boots into Mac OS. I can see a USB drive in the Finder. I have tried the board with its original display, but also on another known good display, still no backlight.

    820-00840-A Backlight issue

Hi, I'm stuggling with this board. I got the board from a laptop which had obviously been taken apart previously. At first, I only got 5V on the charger, so I replaced one of the CD3215s (the one that got hot) and then I got 20V and the board was booting fine. Except there was no backlight...

820-3437-B not turn on, green and orange light.

I think 2informaticos is right, what does "PP3V3_S4 = 3.32v=0" mean ? Do you actually get 3.32V or 0V on PP3V3_S4 rail, it's not clear. I'm going to assume that your PP3V3_S4 is missing. Can you check S4_PWR_EN ?

    820-00840 not turning on

SMC bypass doesn't help. The only other coil that pulses, besides 3V3_S5 is is L7030. All other coils read 0V.

    820-00840 not turning on

Hi, I have a board from an A1708 which doesn't turn on. No trace of liquid spill. At first, plugging in the charger gave me 5V only, and around 150mA of current draw. I figured out that my first issue was that it was missing PP3V3_G3H, and that was due to a short to ground (approx 2 Ohms) I was...

820-3437-B // damaged missing components due to corrosion

You can find donor boards of this type for like 10 bucks on AliExpress. Why bother buying new "compatible" components ?

Looks like a great way to waste over 100 bucks Just my opinion though

    00840 5volts on both ports

Hi guys, I was just checking if you made any progress with this issue ? I happen to have a board with the exact same issue. One of the CD3215s gives me no 1V1. I have replaced it 3 times now, with chips I purchased reballed from different vendors on Ali. I also replaced the other CD3215 on that...

    820-00840-A no keyboard, no trackpad

All solders on the trackpad connector are good. I pushed them all with tweezers. TPAD_SPI_IF_EN gives me 3.3V (tested with trackpad disconnected as I have the board in the case right now, and so I couldn't test it with the trackpad plugged in)

    820-00840-A no keyboard, no trackpad

I have 3.4V on LID_OPEN when the lid is indeed open. 0V when the lid is closed. That part looks fine.

    820-00840-A no keyboard, no trackpad

Hi, This is an A1708 and somebody has stepped on the keyboard. The topcase is therefore bent downwards in the middle of the keyboard. Luckily, it didn't seem to bend the logic board itself. I was able to unscrew it and it didn't pop out or anything like that. I got a new topcase, but still don't...

    820-00239-A SSD issue

Hi, I have this board that gives me a question mark folder. Booting an OSX installer from USB shows no internal storage in Disk Utility. Booting an OSX installed on a USB drive gives me a critical firmware update issue. Also, the touchbar doesn't work, which I believe is normal as the T1 chip...

    820-3536-A with a half-shorted PP3V3_S0

Yeah, I tried what you said, and I was indeed able to solder it directly. And replacing that mosfet fixed the board. PP3V3_S0 now runs at 3.3V and the board gives me a fanspin and a chime. Thanks !
