    820-4924 No Keyboard/Trackpad

Thanks, that helped get me there. It's a strange one. 3V3_S3 was unstable at around .5V for a few seconds at startup and then would come up to 3.3V. That was keeping the trackpad from getting power initially which seemed to keep it off after that. I switched out U8010 and 3V3_S3 comes up to 3.3V...

    820-4924 No Keyboard/Trackpad

Yes, it does the same thing in the boot menu. Just has the trackpad click. No Force Touch click. No movement. No keyboard.

00045 No power. I'm assuming no hope. Any way to recover files?

Thanks, it's a friend's computer and will arrive this week so I'll know more then.

00045 No power. I'm assuming no hope. Any way to recover files?

Yeah, I thought about the CPU swap idea, but I kind of liked 2informaticos idea of swapping the SSD components. That feels slightly less terrible and maybe more likely to succeed? I feel like it's so hard to install a CPU without warping or damaging the board.

00045 No power. I'm assuming no hope. Any way to recover files?

About how many components is this? And is it something you would recommend trying? I'm comfortable doing SMC reballing. Is it in that type of difficulty realm? A few SMC replacements essentially? I'm wondering also, how likely I am to destroy the donor board with excess heat from the process.

00045 No power. I'm assuming no hope. Any way to recover files?

I have a 2015 MacBook 12" that's dead. No spill. I haven't dug into it yet but I'm assuming this is going to be a dead CPU issue and be hopeless. If that is indeed the case, does anyone know of a way to recover the files? Or if there is a device like the 076-00236 2016/2017 MacBook Pro data...

    820-4924 No Keyboard/Trackpad

Yes, definitely tried known-good trackpad, cable and keyboard. I have a bunch of these boards around so I double-checked with a good board and all of the test parts are confirmed good.

    820-4924 No Keyboard/Trackpad

This board had some minor liquid-damage but nothing near the keyboard or trackpad connector. The board works fine but has no trackpad or keyboard, just the click works. The trackpad doesn't work beyond that - no movement. No response from keyboard. Not sure where to go with this. Everything is...

820-3209 Turns on but no MagSafe light. PPBUS is at 8.17V

Yes, that's where I had gotten the other day when I gave up. I had already removed U5010 with no luck. And checked everything else in the circuit with no luck. Letting this one go. Thanks.

820-3209 Turns on but no MagSafe light. PPBUS is at 8.17V

I thought I looked at them all. I of course would like to look at other reasons. What ideas do you have? I've pulled everything on the SMC_ONOFF_L line and it's still there.

820-3209 Turns on but no MagSafe light. PPBUS is at 8.17V

I removed the entire trackpad connector as it was loose for some reason. That didn't change anything so I'm assuming I'm just down to a bad SMC. Won't be spending the time to switch the SMC so this is going in the as-is stack.

820-3209 Turns on but no MagSafe light. PPBUS is at 8.17V

Diode mode is measuring good at .501 and .502 on SDA and SCL. Voltage is measuring 3.4V on both lines but there's no signaling. The voltage is just staying fixed at 3.4V - no drops at all. I disconnected the flex cable but can't get PPBUS to come up. It stays at 8.17V. When plugging it in, the...

820-3209 Turns on but no MagSafe light. PPBUS is at 8.17V

Not sure what's happening with this. It was submitted as liquid-damaged but I'm not seeing anything. The fan goes high right away. Sometimes the fan will start and stop and then it turns on. Has flashing folder, but no MagSafe light. I've checked everything I could think to. Not sure what would...

820-00926 Has circle with line through it. And spots that look like dead pixels.

You're right. I'm confused. I had a 2018 sitting in front of me when I was typing that. Letting this one go. So little liquid-damage for such a complete failure.

820-00926 Has circle with line through it. And spots that look like dead pixels.

It's a 2018 so no lifeboat. It's also booting, or attempting to boot, intermittently now, so sometimes I can't get it to the drive-select screen. And sometimes it seems to freeze. I'm not getting to the prohibition sign much anymore. I guess the assumption is that the CPU or VRAM was damaged...

820-00926 Has circle with line through it. And spots that look like dead pixels.

I checked the board again. I attached a pre-cleaning picture of the area hit (and then pictures of the whole board, also pre-cleaning). This is the only area that was hit by the spill. Underneath that corrosion, the only components that look damaged were a few smaller capacitors. I replaced...

Any creative ideas for using a 2016 MacBook 12" with the usual dead SSD issue?

Thanks, that's the path I'm on. Being that I'll need to buy two components, I'm not sure if it's worth investing more money to save a pretty terrible computer. I'll probably just sell it as-is.

820-00926 Has circle with line through it. And spots that look like dead pixels.

Ok, thanks, I'll try that. I purposely only used a soldering iron to avoid adding heat. No heat gun. The whole replacement was done in a matter of seconds. C7292 was already falling off the board so it was straightforward. I'll try to clean up those area with some flux and see if that helps.

2informaticos Any last words for this one? Any hope?

Any creative ideas for using a 2016 MacBook 12" with the usual dead SSD issue?

I have a 2016 MacBook 12" with the non-recognized SSD issue and am wondering if anyone has any good ideas on how to continue using these with some type of external SSD possibly? I hate to just get rid of this as an as-is computer.
