Mac Mini Mid 2011 820-3059-A = doesn't start, voltages pulse

Yes, it does. Remove heatsink and heat 180C?

Mac Mini Mid 2011 820-3059-A = doesn't start, voltages pulse

Okay, to start it, just connect a random keyboard, hold combo and power button? As for the one time that it started, when I heard the beep, I turned it off since nothing was connected to it. It was just bare board. As for the pulses, I believe pretty much everything pulses, including CPU coils.

Mac Mini Mid 2011 820-3059-A = doesn't start, voltages pulse

Not Macbook board related, but some info would be nice if someone knows. I'm a complete noob here. Problem: doesn't start. 3.42V and 11.89V present. Other voltages pulse when the power button is pushed. Board is clean and no previous work has been done. Actually, I even managed to start it...

820-3115 = no chime, no CPU VCORE

Okay, time to go hunting. Thank you

820-3115 = no chime, no CPU VCORE

Correct. I made a mistake thinking there could be crap under SMC since that area was water damaged and R5280 look good but turned out to be vice-versa. Is there anything else that could be checked on the board?

820-3115 = no chime, no CPU VCORE

Do you think there could be broken via from SPI to PCH? I haven't checked I2C properly before reflowing SMC. Unfortunately, I had hot air a bit longer than usual on SMC and haven't check after it if PP3V42 was connected to something else during reflow, before starting the laptop. Other than...

820-3115 = no chime, no CPU VCORE

U7400 looks good too. The laptop was working before, just slow. I believe I was too fast and burned out one SMC during reflow (even though I was supposed to look at I2C lines first). PP3V42 was lower than usual, I cannot remember the correct value since it was some time ago. With SMC and ISL...

820-3115 = no chime, no CPU VCORE

Not working with SMC bypass. SPI all good. New BIOS didn't bring any change. EDIT: I got like 2 Ohms on CPU VCORE if that means anything.

820-3115 = no chime, no CPU VCORE

Okay, R5280 only 1.2V on pin 2. Resistor measures 2kOhms. Whole rail looks visually good. Shall I try with new ISL? EDIT: replaced ISL with new one, PPBUS is 12.56V

I should be looking at SMBus connections then and go from there?

820-3115 = no chime, no CPU VCORE

R7402/03 = good PPBUS was 12.2 before SMC change. New SMC was pulled from same working board.

820-3115 = no chime, no CPU VCORE

PPBUS - 12.2V PP3V42 - 3.4V PGOOD - 3.3V ALL_SYS_PWRGOOD - 3.3V I seem to have input signals for U7400, but it doesn't shoot out CPU VCORE. DCPS pulls 155mA before it raises up to 230mA as the fan ramps up. SMC was just replaced with another working. What other signals should I take care of?

    820-3437 water damage around SMC

PP3V3_S0 shorted PP1V05_S0 shorted. Injected 1V into PP3V3_S0 and CPU gets hot around pin 1147.

    820-3437 water damage around SMC

Okay, I lifted mentioned chips (except SMC and PCH, of course) and nothing changed. Then I heated SMC with flux and PM_SLP_S4_L is back to 100kOhms. I wanted to check for PM_SLP_S4_L value and checked wrong resistor (R1995) instead of R1461. Basically, R1995 shows PP3V3_S0 being 0 Ohms. Power...

    820-3437 water damage around SMC

Okay. Before I do that, I went around a bit and found PM_SLP_S4_L having 3.5Ohms. So hopefully not PCH or SMC pulling it down... Should I first try to remove other components on that rails and check?

    820-3437 water damage around SMC

I haven't done anything to SMC yet. It doesn't start in SMC bypass mode. PM_SLP_SUS_L - 3.3V PP3V3_SUS - 3.3V PM_SLP_S4_L - 0.02V (no pulse) DCPS shows 30mA steady draw. It hangs somewhere.

    820-3437 water damage around SMC

Board was water damaged. Cleaned with UC. Damaged areas showed in pictures. After cleaning, looks pretty good, including under SMC. Rails present & stable: PPBUS PP3V42 PPVRTC PP5V_S5 PP3V3_S5 Not present: PP5V_S4 0V PP3V3_S4 0.235V

Changed U5511, no luck. I have around 3.8kOhms on pin 9. On another board it is 13-14 kOhms.

    820-3115-b

One question before I change it: should I have 4.7kOhms on SMBUS_SMC_1_S0_SCL? Pin 10 on U5511.

Thanks. Tried it, no change. Fan spins fast.
