Wrong chip installed. You put a 0005 chip on a board that had a 0084. Put a 0001 there. Good luck finding them....

It’s my own machine anyway. I can get 0001s but they are not cheap and very few.
The machine works. You think there will be any issues using it?

Depends if you get them from China or local of course. Last batch of 0001 a week ago I payed $57ish. Of course if you buy local add taxes and shipping and yeah....

Well depending on what chips I order and where from I'm payng between £4 and £12 more. Even though the three people I buy from are all sourcing from what I beleive is the same chinese guys, I think the extra cash is probably worth it for knowing they are good chips and not having to buy by the case which I cant afford. Middle man + PayPal keeps my peace of mind so I guess my pants are not being pulled down over the price really. In light of that, I've just ordered some 0001s.

As always, thank you for your reply Duke.
All the best.

Ive seen this before and i believe it may have more depth than just strapping.

In the past few weeks i put 005's on both samsung 1GB 084 boards and hynix ones too. All working good. Id be interested to know the brand of the VRAM installed and the actually capacity? (i imagine its 2.4/sam1gb) Also the straps you've populated? If thats the case why does it work on some boards and not others? Thanks

I honestly have no idea. You're probably in a better possition to figure out why... Maybe VBIOS??
Chips are Samsung K4G20325FC-HC04 1GB

I had to install R8610 to get the 005 to work at all.

I can run FurMark and no issues. Use as normal without issues... ... Just, no problems at all.
I have not bothered to find any sort of VRAM tester software. I don't think I really need to know too much, just stick a 0001 on there when they arrive.
I only put the 005 on this one because it's my own machine.

There is no valid strapping option for a 0005 and 1GB samsung VRAM on these boards. This machine will crash if you run "Heaven".

I can confirm I have one sat right in front of me with Samsung 1GB/2.4 with a 005 installed. It shows 1GB VRAM and runs heaven and valley, and everything else perfectly. There must be something going on in the video bios.
I will put the board in a shell and screenshot it for you guys.

No Title

I cant prove its samsung Vram with this screenshot, but i guess you'll have to take my word for it Duke. I can confirm the straps i used are
R8613, R8710 stuffed,

R8612, R8611, R8712, R8711, R8610, R8709, R8708 Not stuffed

That configuration is the exact same as the K91F Samsung 1GB in the table on the schematic, why it works? im unsure. But recently ive been noting down all Vram brands, sizes and straps used, This is because I had some odd issues with SKhynix Vram on apples reworked boards not working with what i thought was the correct strapping.ect

G.Beard, would be interested to see the ROM version in your system report! if you want feel free to ping me over a full dump of your bios and i will reflash this board and have a look at it again.

I'm not sure about the details, but I have had this exact issue before and no strapping option would work correctly. It may be some specific version of the Samsung VRAM chips, I don't know anymore. I just put the correct GPU there and problem solved.

Ive had the issue too, Im just trying to further my knowledge of why it happens, If its ROM version or a specific revision of the samsung chips. My board has K4G20325FC-HC04 with 143 written at the top right corner, Not sure if that makes any difference yet but i would like to get to the bottom of why :)

Thing is, who cares really. It's not as if doing BGA jobs on these 2011 / 10s is going to last very much longer. These are 7 / 8 year old machnes now. Some china man has to smuggle chips out the factory under his hat, then get them acccross boarders, and who the fuck knows if in 2018 they will still be making these chips. Grab the chips and the money while you can. This cash cow has been well milked and runing dry IMO.

Id like to get to the bottom of this purely out of curiosity, but fair enough if your not intrigued.

Probably flogging a dead horse here,
Did another today, Same had the same ROM version and shows the VRAM correctly with the same strapping as mentioned in the posts prior.

Sure it's interesting, I just don't have time for interesting. 1x wife, 1x 15 yr old, 6x cats, 3x dogs, a car a house and my own business with zero staff since everyone I employ is a useless cunt.
Where's the tme man :(. If learning is advantageous then sure there is time. This is single case that is non-applicatble to any other aspect of life or business. It's also not going to get my wallet hard. You get me?

Yeah, i certainly do, lots of things i want to look into but never have enough time for. I also understand the employment side of things too. Would you mind going into system report and checking your Rom version though? i did a 2.5/1gb samsung with a 6750 yesterday as well. And it shows 1024Mb correctly so im wondering if apple released an update/patch for it at some point
