820-00045.. another one sodomized

2015 a1534 820-00045

Was told it just stopped working one day. Received with no life. Opened to find the DC in unplugged and the display cable half way in, while over the clip. Also, the RAM shield was (overheated) removed and just placed on, and an antenna clip was ripped off the board. Owner then admitted that a shop attempted to repair...

Get it all together properly - charges and boots fine but no key response at login screen or mouse movement.
Trackpad clicks, keyboard backlight is on, power button will turn off and on, SMC can be reset at any point, PRAM reset works.
Unable to option, verbose or safe boot through internal or external keyboard.
So, keys appear to mostly respond prior to loading the OS.

No indication of liquid exposure. Tested with known good cables and keyboard/tpad.

If it does a PRAM reset you should be able to get into the boot menu. Inspect the TP/KBD connector on the board.
If there is no keyboard/mouse connected OSX should pop up with the bluetooth assistant to connect a BT KBD/mouse.

Was able to access the boot menu with a different adapter. Wired keyboard must not work immediately with some adapters (insignia at least).
Reinstalled OS with similar results except now I’m unable to PRAM reset and don’t get keyboard backlight. Still able to use pwr button and SMC reset at any time. Not sure of previous OS version or if firmware affects this. Haven’t even opened again prior to reinstall.

At login it prompts for keyboard/mouse. System report does not show any connected other than Bluetooth. ‘Click’ works.

Will crack open open again and recheck the MLB connector. I’ll include some pics shortly.

While the Mac was sitting on the desk I noticed it wakes from sleep every 76 seconds. Not sure if this points to anything...

Some pics. Post ultrasonic 2nd round.. no difference.
Fuse next to tpad / keybrd connector looks a little toasty but measures fine.
Discovered the bottom shield was removed and poorly replaced too. Doesn’t look like anything else was replaced on the board.
Usually I’d call this FUBR but seems so close with just keyboard/ trackpad missing... could I be wrong?

Welp.. 3rd case worked. Guess it wasn’t a match with the others I tried.
Im assuming the original case has liquid damage that hasn’t tripped any sensors. Good candidate for the ultrasonic cleaning test!
