820-00165-A Orange Light, No Power

Hey!

I'm new here but I have been trying to troubleshoot boards for a while. I have this board in that has an orange light but does not turn on, no fan spin. PPBUS_G3H is showing 8.56v on both sides of f7140. I found a cap that was askew [c7094] and replaced it. Before doing so, PP3V42_G3H was showing around 1.8V on pin 2 of L7095, now PP3V42_G3H is showing 3.335v on the same pin.

Not sure where to go from here, i could really use some help. Thank you!

As a side note, are there any resources someone can point me to to break down the sleep states for macbooks? Just trying to wrap my head around the logical progression from initial power to boot.

3v3_s5: 3.335v
PM_BATLOW_L: 3.309v
PCH_DSWVRMEN: 3.03v but drops to 2.8 temporarily
PM_DSW_PWRGD: 3.352v
SMC_ADAPTER_EN: 3.356v

PCH RTC: I may need some guidance on this, what signals do i need to check for? Im not sure if my meter is sufficient enough to measure clock signals, and since I have not measured clock signals before, I'm not sure if I'm doing it correctly (each probe on the terminals of the oscillator). In this case, am i checking PCH_CLK32K_RTCX1 against ground on my Hz setting on my meter?

I've got a Klein Tools MM400.

Thanks!

I meant DC voltage of RTC signals.
RTC clock isn't needed there (yet).
Check if 3V3_SUS comes on too.

PM_SLP_S4_L should pulse at same time; check that.
If catch it, check at ALL_SYS_PWRGD too.

Worth to try SMC bypass too...

PM_SLP_S4_L is at 0.0mv without power button
does that indicate short on that line?

Not sure if this is relevant, but r1461 shows 0.483v on pin 2 diode mode

not surprisingly, SMC bypass did not work, no ALL_SYS_PWRGD either

Then seems to have a PCH related issue.

"PCH_INTRUDER_L:2.06v"
Force this signal soldering 100K instead of 1M (R1301).

Be sure 1V05_SUS is present.

You can try heating PCH area untill 200 degress Celsius, for 20-30s aprox.
No need to melt the balls; the idea is to burn eventually accumulated crap.
Use quality flux!
