820-00165 Battery Issue

Hello,

Logic board had liquid damage, corrosion on U1930, and on the J6100 connector.
Replaced U1930 and removed J1600.
LB appears to be functioning normally except it throws a PPT004 battery error when the internal diagnostics are run, even with a known good battery.
SMBUS_SMC_5_G3_SCL and SMBUS_SMC_5_G3_SDA appear to be working, at least R5380 and R5381 are in good shape, and the voltage is close to 3.42 volts, and the SDA line is showing some fluctuations consistent with data. I don't have a scope though.
Battery detection is working.

Any ideas or places to start?

Thanks much,

Stefan

If the machine works fine otherwise the PPT004 is probably an error for a non sealed battery. Chinese replacement batteries usually leave the controller in non-sealed state which will not affect anything. It does make it possible to simply reset cycle counter and full charge capacity etc. if you wish to do so. Sealed batteries require a password to access these values in the controller.

Hmm, I will have to ask the supplier.
As far as I am aware these are OEM pulls that they rate by estimated capacity, but they could have ran out of stock and sold a replacement.

Thanks for your time.

Even the original ones can be "unsealed" and reset. This is what most Chinese do and then sell them as "new"
