The LCD MUST go off in sleep.

Check security settings and allow machine tyo boot from USB.
Then see what happens booting known good USB macOS.
Is good to discard a software issue.
Check SMC_LID_RIGHT/LEFT_R and SMC_LID signals; when screen goes off.
Do PRAM reset, just in case.
