820-01700 Not charging, works with battery

Hi all, I'm new (posting) to the forums so please be gentle.

This 16" Macbook came in not charging, was running on battery but all but one USB-C port were registering voltage of 20V 0A. UB300 was getting warm and showing 5V/0V on each side of its USB-C connector. I replaced the CD3217B and now I get 20V 0A on all but the corresponding port for UB300 which shows 20V 0.004A. I have also replaced charging IC U7000 with the same results. The board shows 5V when battery not connected and won't boot. I am using a 96W non OEM charger.

First of all, welcome to the forum!

I recommend to get all ORIGINAL APPLE set of chargers.
So you get 0.004A one port only?
Compare diode mode to ground readings between all USB-C ports.
Do you get correct LDOs on all them?

Sorry if I haven't fully understood required readings.
I've now tested with original Apple 96W charger and lead, 20V 0.004A on top right USB-C connector only.

Un saludo.

Please, use schematic refferences, instead of left/right, top/bottom, etc.

Check and compare diode mode readings between pages 32 & 112.
You may have 1 or more CD3217 bad.
All USB-C ports must have the same behavior.
Remove their connecors from the shell and inspect the terminals.

Actually, with charged battery, machine turns on?

OK I'll try another CD3217 as I have just received another batch.

The Macbook works with the battery.

Then your problem is located on USB-C areas.
Be sure U2890 and UB090 have good solders and traces.
Just in case, you can try to reflash them; make backup first!

Changed CB300 with same outcome. I have ordered some USON-8 templates from PCBWay, do you have a dump for U2890/UB090 or know of firmware dump source?

Hi, I reflashed UB090 and U2890 and now I am getting 20V 0.065A on all ports with and without battery connected. The Macbook will not boot at all now.

OK, I attempted DFU restore with original apple charger and Thunderbolt 3 cable, all I get every attempt is:

'Gave up waiting for device to transition from DFU to DFU state [com.apple.MobileDevice.MobileRestore - 0FCA (4042)] . Target Macbook is at 20V 0.066A most of the time.

Should I reflash UB090 and U2890 back to original firmware? It would at least boot on battery before the reflash.

I reflashed the 2 TBT ROMs, I get the same error message when attempting DFU restore although 5V 0.270A is now showing.

No, wont work with battery now, I had 20V before and after reflashing with the dumps you provided, with the original I now get 5V

If you didn't move anything on the board, then something reacted to the heat.
Maybe need to resolder/reball CD3217 chips.

I've reflowed everything on that side, still no joy. I'm awaiting new CD3217 but I feel I'm wasting my time on this board now.

Would it be worth replacing ALL the CD3217s? I only originally replaced the two on the side where one was faulty/getting hot.
