820-2850 - Green light (doesn't seem to give an orange light), no power on.

Board came in not powering on 'All of a sudden'. It was filthy with dust and grime.
I gave it a clean. Gets a green light every time, but doesn't seem to give an orange light ever.

Oh Crap.
I just noticed someone swapped my charger out for a knock-off.

Tracking down an original and reporting back.

Duke, you need to explain this to me please.

Retrieved my OEM charger from co-worker and BAM! We got fan spin!!

How come the OEM one works and the knock-off doesn't?

Doesn't see battery still. At least I'm half way there now.

the knockoff POS is a 60 watt charger pretending to be an 85w charger, this board needs 85w to boot up.

what is SMC_ADAPTER_EN measuring with the knockoff vs. the known good charger? I would usually ask this first, but duke is psychic and knew which charger you were using without asking. :)

Thanks for explaining.

Going go an measure SMC_ADAPTER_EN and see just how different it is. This is interesting.

There is a chip in the charger that contains data. The board MUST see a 85W one and will not power up with anything else. A fake charger that has the proper 85W chip in it should also work, but you never know for sure until you have a working machine to verify.
Try a known good battery and disconnect the battery indicator. If still not battery recognized probably a bad SMC/ISL
