820-3115 - Keep getting the prohibitory sign.

Laptop came in with a failed hard drive.

I grabbed a new drive and put my image (Mac OS) on it, whacked it into the laptop. It appears to boot, gives the progress bar etc. then suddenly a prohibitory sign.

Tried to do a fresh install, and it just never finishes, sits on 14min to go forever. (Mac OS & El Capitan)

Put new sata cable in, just to make sure, and I get the same behaviour.

Any ideas?

If I'm not mistaken this board has an issue where a component will occasionally get blown on the underside of the board that goes to the hard drive connector on top. Check page 41 in the schematics and do some troubleshooting from there.

Thanks I'll investigate.
But I'm not sure if it's related to the SATA circuit because it loads almost to the OS everytime.

No. Same behaviour.
Installer will sometimes load (very slow to show UI). Then it never gets past about 14min to go.

Hmmm, it just booted of an SSD, but it does feel a little slow.

I thought the issue could be hardware related but seems it could be something software/hdd/sata cable related.

Bad RAM can also cause shit like this. Run ASD
