A1466 820-00165 no power

Hello guys

I have this board that i am working on for a few days and at this point i am lost and need some help.

If anyone can help would be great.

So this computer came with a shutdown problem, was really slow and when appear the password of the client shutdown immediately every single time. Other problem was that a lot of times the computer didn´t start.

I did remove the board to inspection and add corrosion on u6100, i did clean and replace r6116 because wasn´t good but problem persist. Then with further testing i replace r7006 because wasn´t good after that the problem off only power sometimes was solved.

But i still had the slow and crash problem, after that just for testing i did replace de u6100 from a donor. I was kinda happy because the after that the laptop was slow but didn´t crash anymore. But then i saw another problem every time i insert the login password the progress bar was really slow and never pass from there.

Once again i inspect the board and i miss corrosion in other point of the board this time u5110, i replace the ic from donor board and after that the board start once or twice and now is dead.

I did try SMC bypass and the board start with the fan at high rpm and don´t have any light in the charge is that normal? Other thing i notice was that PPBUS_G3H 8.18V.

First of all, welcome to the forum!

If board starts always in SMC bypass mode, this denotes a problem with an I/V sensor.
Check first if AVREF_SMC is present (C5125).

Changing SPI chip with one from other board, implies ME region issue.
You sould try known good BIOS, clean ME:

i did check avref_smc present and i do have it 3.29v

i will try the file you sent me, but still the board now doesn´t power after i replace u5110.
and before at least that did power this is a bit strange isn´t it.

Now the board doesn't turn on in SMC bypass too?

Check SMC_RESET_L and post exact PPBUS_G3H voltage.
Do you get 3V42_G3H?
Also check 3V3_S5/SUS.

i was only asking about the problem i had before to try to understand why only start with smc bypass after replace u5110.

the current state is the same of number 4 post. i am looking now for a rom ic in other board the write the bios you send me.

i will post rhe result

yes i do, de only thing i didn´t do is flash the bin file you sent me and see if something change.

so i did flash de bios and with board out of the laptop i did plug the charger and the board didn´t start, should start by itself right?

after that i place board in the computer to give it a try and the board did start when i press the power button but i still have slowly computer problem.
it goes untill the full os progress bar but stop there.

i did a force shutdow and power again and did reset nvram and i was able to login to os. i did a soft shutdown and wait a few minutes, i did power again and now is again stoped at full bar os.

can you advice me something?

Check if loads macOS starting in safe mode.
Also test with another SSD.

You should also have an USB pendrive/HDD with preinstalled macOS for test.

My concern now is about what i asked you, without battery and plugin the charger the board should start right?

Hi, can you please help me in what should i check to try to find the problem of the board not starting just with charger?

i did the follow tests for the problem not loading os: nvram reset, safe mode i was able to login, disk utility repair.
After test each one individually i was able to load the os fine, if i do restart will do just fine, but if i shutdown the computer and start again i have the same problem. once the os have available updates i am doing it now to see if anything changes if not i will try a external drive with os.

but my concern is if once i have the problem of the board not start with just the charger cause the behavior.

The board should start when charger is connected, if no battery present.
Also happens with battery present on first start, untill proper software shutdown.

Be sure to use correct Magsafe 2 charger.
If no battery present, which voltages do you get on the board (when doesn't want to start)?

I can see light at the end of the tunnel now .
The software problem is solved after the os update.

About the problem of not start without the battery, i do not have the original charger i have a oem one, with battery in the first start the laptop start by itself when i plug the charger.
I did test wifi, sound, usb port and all working fine what do you thing should i pursuit for the not starting problem or maybe it is because isn´t an original charger. The voltages i have are the same i post in all topics nothing change, Right now all seem to be good.

If machine starts correctly with power button, leave it as is.
