Got this in today with a Keyboard issue. I was told the keyboard is dead and needs replacing but Ive never worked on one of these before and looking online replacement keyboards are hard to find and im reading that they are binded somehow to the T2 chip?

The odd thing is I tried to do an SMC / Pram reset, first time I did this the keyboard worked fine on the login screen and let me log into OS, once in the OS the keyboard was completely non responsive.

I tried a few more times then gave up last night, I turned it on this morning and the keyboard worked just fine logging in and for a couple of mins in the OS i was able to search google then the mac mad a system boing noise (same sound it makes when plugging in a charge cable) and the keyboard has stopped working again. I reboot and now its non responsive on the log in screen again,.

Looking inside the mac its immaculate, no sign of any liquid or corrosion the board looks like new!

So I know the keyboard works it just seems something weird is going on,. Any help with this appreciated.

Trackpad works always, only keyboard stops to respond?
I recommend to test with known good trackpad flex/board first.

Yes track pad is always fine.
I don't have a track pad / flrxboard I can try, would you recommend I purchase one to try it. There is nothing else that could be causing this?

New trackpad and TP Flex cable arrived today, Fitted and same problem., no keyboard but power button works,

Whats strange is occasionaly the keyboard will work for a very short time, I can type in password open google and all keys work for like 60 seconds, Then it makes a beep sound ( Like the noise of a charger been plugged in ) and it stops working again., sometimes it wont work at all again that day then it will for 60 seconds the next:?

just go the scem for this board and pulled out the logic board,

L6701/2/3 it says. FERR-120-OHM-1.5A

I checked these 3 using continuity mode and all gave continuity, Is this the correct way to measure these?
If not, how should I be measuring these with the meter?

Also how would I go about byspassing them to test this theory?

Thanks

They must be practically short, being series coils.
Sometime may have an internal crack which can cause weird issues when board gets voltage.
Then is better to bypass with tiny, for test.

I just removed L6701/2/3 and replaced with a tiny jumper wire, Same result mac boots no problem trackpad is fine but nothing at all from the keyboard.

You think this could actually be a dead keyboard?

( Will it do any harm leaving the jumpers in place of L6701/2/3 or do they need to go back on?

Keyboard ordered will let you know what happens when it arrives,

Do I need to put back L6701/2/3 or is it ok to just leave it with the jumpers on?

I don't know if this could be related to the keyboard issue but I've noticed with this Mac that if its been left for a while or if the battery is unplugged then I cant power on using the power button, I can only get it to turn on if I connect the charge cable then once its powered on with charge cable connected it will power on and off with or without charge cable connected.

Power button is not included in the keyboard, like in old models.
Remains to check PMU_RSLOC_RST_L behavior; should be steady high.

Fitted new keyboard last night and the machine works perfectly again.
Do I really have to put those coils back on? :p
