There is no way to read the firmware out of the SMC or to update it as of now.

I think you mean the hackintosh tool called FakeSMC, but I think thats reverse engineered through OS X and not by the hardware of the SMC itself

You can't read an SMC and never will be able to. Can only force update a donor SMC with different firmware. All too much fuckery so get the correct donor SMC.
