We are replacing the keyboard of this15" 2016 Touch Bar model and the original keyboard is riveted. While trying to push it (from the top) or pull it out (from the bottom), it come out in pieces.
That's annoying and time consuming.
Anyone has a trick to overcome this?
You are right, we were using 2014 screens. Took me some time to check. Whereas the laptop was 2015. They have the same connectors, though it seems they are sold as different 2013/2014 vs. 2015.
Since it is working now we wrapped it up and sent it away to meet deadline. No time to take new measurements.
Summary:
Yes we reset PRAM.
Observations:
1/ Screen THAT CAME WITH IT => B/L works from the moment it booted with/without SSD.
2-A/ ALL OTHER screens, if no SSD attached => no B/L when...
Ok something weird here.
I conclude the following: the Mac was for some reason "dead." As in if you drain the battery or reset it probably, it should restart.
They took it to a local AASP and the tech there knocked off some SMC resistors and pronounced it dead.
It came to me, I noticed and...
MBP 13" Retina 820-4924 "died suddenly" as per owner. They tried "resetting" without success (not sure what they did).
No liquid damage. No prior repair apparent except local AASP diagnosed "bad board." They removed the board at some time (missing screws).
They may have caused something in the...
I know Toshiba is off topic, but may be someone has encountered this issue before and can help, or have any kind of insight!
Board with fan and heat sink and CPU compound, powered with 90W charger / 19V, will boot (fan spin) without RAM inserted in any of the slots.
Will quarter spin when a...
I measured voltages at the connector. Got 12.6V that turn to 39V whenever the display decides to light up.
It did it once when I was testing the voltages, and the LCD cable partially slipped out. I pushed it back in and got backlight.
I will give it back and wait to receive the new screen :-/...
Trying to secure a screen since incoming screen is held at customs.
Tried two new cables in the meantime, twice each, everytime we get no backlight.
Tried the old one back, 4 times, three of which we get no backlight, and once no display.
Will start troubleshooting backlight while waiting for a...
Check DDRREG for corrosion or pry damage. Or shorted components. I fixed one with corroded resistors and caps on that line.
I've known someone who would reflow the RAM chips to fix possible broken balls.
This is a rush job, I have no time to investigate properly, and hoping for clues.
We always have display on external monitor, sometimes we have on the internal display, sometimes not. We booted three times, only last time did we get display from internal monitor.
Customer said most times pulling...
No Title
I cleaned before the picture. It is usually messy.
The caption is a "private" joke aimed at someone I know, but it's the only pic I have and am too lazy to take a new one.
EDIT: I sent it back to the customer, couldn't keep it any longer. Would like to know possible suspects/solutions for next time I encounter this.
The short answer is: there is sound from speakers when HP are plugged in, as if nothing is plugged in (hence the "not detected I mentioned in my...
Now there is sound from speakers as if headphones are not plugged in. This is what I meant by "headphones not detected."
(Only at the start right after first replacement headphones were detected but I don't know what caused them to stop working afterwards).
820-3115 No liquid damage, no previous repair attempt.
Sent to me for "headphones jack replacement." Did not test prior, just replaced it. Got sound with some static from original iPhone headphones jack then sound stopped. Was getting red light on and off.
Resistors, diodes, and caps nearby...
What is the resistance in Ohm reading? And did you try a different cap?
I've replaced quite a bunch and never damaged anything. Were you blowing hot air inwards towards the board or outwards?
If it is anything like my own 820-3332, it has a bad battery + the U8900 problem because my battery is bad and in parallel I get full fan speed intermittently.
EDIT: I'll try the U8900 repair this week when I have time to tear it apart as I use it for work all the time.
Just as a last update. Those guys had sent me a donor board together with the board that needed fixing.
i ended up fixing the donor board so to was somewhat a success.
Thank you.
Before testing for resistance, I have to make sure SMC is working properly or this is separate?
Could I have from the beginning tested this rail for resistance and not bothered with fixing the SMC?
