The new LP8550s come pre balled. You may not have enough solder on all of the pins of the pulled LP8550. I'm having similar issue...just waiting on the new LP8550s so I can test the issue before posting a thread about it.

None of 6 LED_RETURN resistors are open. When I wiggle the LVDS connector, the backlight issues seems to correct itself which leads me to a bad LVDS connector or a bad LVDS cable. Still diagnosing.
