    820-00244 - PP5V_S5 woes

Nothing on the board heats up, at least not quickly; my (fairly thick) wire soldered to the board does smoke and its insulation melts at 5V / 10A (my power supply's max current) If I leave it on 1V for a longer period a large area around my jumper's location heats up, but nothing specific. (I've...

    820-00244 - PP5V_S5 woes

Yeah, I'm working with just the board. Found out PP5V_S4 is shorted to GND.. I hooked up lab supply to it; Nothing getting hot with 4A at 1V. Short to GND inside the board, I guess? :(

    820-00244 - PP5V_S5 woes

This board has no visible damage. It seemed like a straightforward issue, as I found PP5V_S5 to be shorted to GND. I traced it to C8270, which had shorted for unknown reasons. After removing it, the short was gone, but still no power on PP5V_S5. I replaced U7650 with a good looking one from a...

820-3115-B - unable to get rid of short

Removed all the thunderbolt stuff. Board starts up. mac os wont start fully, machine shuts off randomly and still heats up in TB area after lots of digging. Already broke and then repaired some tracesin this sinkhole... SMC has some nasty gunk around (and naturally under it); this is as far as...

820-3115-B - unable to get rid of short

Ah, damn. Wish I'd known that beforehand. I've removed the TB connection, but I still get an inferno if I hook it up. No time now, gone for the weekend.. Will report back tuesday.. I guess I could drill a hole through the board and see if I can repair whats missing afterwards? heh

820-3115-B - unable to get rid of short

This board came in with nasty old liquid damage. I hooked it up and smelled magic smoke. Found a short somewhere between U3890 and D3895 on T29BST_BOOST I got rid of the IC and all surrounding components, but that didnt remove the short. Digging around removed it, I thought, leaving the rail...

820-3330-B - no power, green magsafe.

    Made an error in my previous reply; Port B (bad one) is J4600 Think I found it... USB3_EXTA_TX_P = 41.4kOhm / 0.352 diode USB3_EXTA_TX_N = 41.4kOhm / 0.352 diode USB3_EXTB_TX_P = 0L / 0L diode USB3_EXTB_TX_N = 0L / 0L diode These all go right to the PCH. So, either cracked balls under PCH or...

820-3330-B - no power, green magsafe.

Shitbrain at work here... I was using a 60 watt charger. Doh.. This thing has been at another repair guy, it came with U8900 and U7400 missing from the board. I replaced those and then did the testing with the wrong adapter... With the right adapter, its working almost fine. Dont know why the...

This macbook was dropped by the owner; it has a green magsafe but wont power on. no fan spin Measurements: S5 rails are present, S3 and up aren't SMC_RESET_L - present SMC_BATLOW - 0V, no pulse when shorting SMC_ONOFF_L and not shorted SMC_PM_G2_EN - present PM_SUS_EN - 0V. Unless I'm...

EMAG Emmi-40D / 60D cleaner or good ole Crest plus an alternative to branson EC

It's working well, boards are coming out as clean as I'd hoped. I can't compare it to anything besides Allendale, and even that comparison isn't based on anything substantial. The one board I tried to clean in my posts above turns out to have had extremely tough corrosion I doubt any combination...

    Rubber pads on heatsink screws

See attached image... I'm curious what they're there for. I'm guessing its so those four points come into (soft) contact with the bottom plate, but why would that be desirable? Reduce vibrations from the fan, or sound from the keyboard? Same for the rubber covers on the display hinges.

820 3208 - no green light, liquid damage

Already did. there are no errors, but I'm told the firmware on this SMC is slightly different and may cause software issues in the future. I already have a functional original board lying around now. Just to be sure, I'll keep the one with the wrong SMC and give the one with the proper SMC to...

820 3208 - no green light, liquid damage

Haven't been able to find a 3208 yet, so I''ll wait until one comes along. I did, as a test, place an SMC from an 3209. Logicboard works fine after that, so its safe to assume that itll work with a 3209 SMC just as well. Feel free to mark this solved and thanks for the help!

2012 iMac - screen fell out about half a year after SSD replacement

I see I never followed up on this post. I ended up not using the VHB tape because of duke's warning. I hadn't thought about the possibility of having to take the lcd back off again in one piece. I didnt need a new LVDS connector but did replace the other one. I used original tape and always will...

I was missing PP3V3_S5_AVREF_SMC, but it turns out U5010 was missing from the board. Placed one on the board which restored it, but not done yet. Current measurements: SMC_PM_G2_EN 0V 19k SMC_ADAPTER_EN 0V 10k PM_SLP_SUS_L 0V 97,8k PM_BATLOW_L 20mV...

Previous work done on this one. at first, PPBUS_G3H and PP3V42 U7000 was poorly soldered, replaced it just to be sure. No green light. Checked with three different I/O boards. SYS_ONEWIRE is hovering somewhere between 0 and 1.2V. SMC_BCACOK = 3.4V SMC_RESET_L = 3.4V PPBUS_G3H = 8.2V I've...
